HardCase has been retired (aka gutted and sold), and it's time for me to start another mod. The novelty of a ground-up case mod has worn off, and I have decided on the black Thermaltake Armor case for my next victim.

I've mounted everything to check the fit / extra room, lighting locations, etc etc. This weekend I'll tear it down to the chassis and start the painting. I will be doing it all myself, except for the window etching / vinyl (haven't decided on that yet). Now, onto the master plan...

If you ask my wife, my computer is my mistress. In keeping with that, and the fact I'm a tattoo/piercing kinda' guy, this case will be a she-devil, Lucy. The case exterior will be flat black, so I'm keeping the factory finish. It fits into the theme, so I'm not going to re-invent that wheel, but I will try to remove the TT and Armor logos. The rest will be orange/yellow/red/purple, sort of a new school hellish look.

For the "mascot," if you will, I'm using a Coop devil design. I'm still torn between etching or etched vinyl graphics, as I've been known to change my mind within days.

I normally shoot for simple on hardware, but I'm going to add some bells and whistles this time. Here are the basic specs so far, many are the same thing I had in Hardcase, but a few are new:

MOBO: Gigabyte K8N Pro
PSU: Antec NeoPower
CPU: AMD64 3000
RAM: 2GB OCZ High Performance
HSF: XP-120
Bells and whistles: AeroCool GateWatch, Red / UV CCFLs and LEDs, UV Red fans, UV orange cables (except the PSU sleeving)

That's it so far, but I'll be posting some pics when I'm operational at home. Probably after I get it painted and reassembled, but I'll take pics along the way.

Pimps and Pimpettes, I wish I could tell ya what I saw over at hp07's house last night, behind the "TOP SECRET - MOD IN PROGRESS" privacy fence, but I've been sworn to secrecy...

Actually, I think it has more to do with the brain cells that were sacrificed to the Gods of Mod last night than any sense of G-14 Classified (Double Secret Probation) secrecy... We thought that having the garage door open while we painted would do the trick, but I guess not. Things weren't so bad, though, hp07 did remember to buy face masks (a two-pack, even!), but we still got kinda "happy"... Glad we let things wear off before I tried to drive home. I might have never made it through town/through the front gate/back to the house otherwise...

Without breaking the vows of secrecy, I think it'll be safe to say that Lucy is gonna be one bad mamma...... I got to see her "undies" (stripped down chassis), and boys, lemme tell ya..... Post up them pics, bro!!!

Quick update: The chassis is painted, along with the drive cages, etc etc. However, my Sony digi-cam has decided to act up, and my cell phone pics look like shhhh - well, they look like cell phone pics. I'm workin' on it!

By Wednesday, my new PSU and all the other new toys will be here. HOPEFULLY I'll be able to take pics of the case as it is so far, then get it assembled and ready to go for the stuff when it shows up. The PSU is the only real hold-up right now, so I'll mount just about everything else (save the stuff I have to sleeve).

The butt-nekkid chassis! Well, sort of. I got the camera working, but the lighting wasn't cooperating tonight. On the other hand, you can definitely see the effect I was shooting for...that hellish, bloody red. It's Metallicast Anodized Red, and it is somewhat of a color-shifter. In a bright light, it sparkles (the pics made it look orange-ish) and in the shadows, it's really really dark.

The optical are already painted black. The PSU is black, and the wires will be sleeved in black (PSU wires). The fan wires are clear, matching the tool-less clips for the opticals. I'll have UV cathodes on the 120mm fans and red cathodes throughout the case.

THRASHER - I'm working on a new sig and ava. I'm retiring hardcase and the iron cross theme, but I think you'll like my new lover-girl, Lucy. I think I may attempt the etching myself, so I'm saving her for later...shhhhhhh

I admit, I only know the broad strokes of the master plan for "Lucy"... I'm sure hp07 was holding some surprises up his "sleeve"... Sorry, bro, I just HAD to...

When I got this thing from UPS, I about s**t! The box was HUGE!!! At first I thought SURELY it was all packaging, but here is a pic for thought. This is a full ATX Gigabyte K8N Pro mounted up. This is a seriously gargantuan tower.

Seriously, I like the black and red. Gives the "tough" look to the PC before you even know what is inside. Apparently though you like that since Hardcase was in the same colors.

Keep the progress and pics coming though.

So what's the story behind the name "Lucy"? I Love Lucy? LOL Nice job so far, it's looking great.
