| Hi, i'm starting a case mod for the first time so here goes The case in uestion is below The case will be based on celtic knot work of the more simple stuff, and i still havn't choosen what designs i want yet. I have already made a start the front the bug round bit was cut out with a penknife and the blue square i hope to replace along with the power button.. when i opened it i found the reset button that is never seen and cannot be pushed The Side panel has had a square cut out of it ready for a window. It has end up as quite a mess and i think i'll need door edge moulding. As for a window etched design, I cannot draw crap so i have commitioned my sister to draw them. The case will be painted black with read lighting and painted designs. At anytime feel free to point laugh or both. | ||

| Ok, everybody ready? Let's all laugh and point together, now... Ok, maybe let's not and just pretend we did... ![]() Actually, that's not too bad for a first try, at least you're in the beginning stages for the mod... Edge molding would help hide some of the imperfections in the window cut, but why not take a bastard mill file and smooth things out some first? You might find that you can smooth the edges out so well that you won't need the edge molding at all... The front square piece could be replaced with some red clear or red smoked plexi, to fit with the internal color scheme. Holes drilled carefully for the power and reset (or not?) buttons... Only concern is the blue fascia pieces along the edges, are they staying or going? IMO, Celtic knot work is a pretty cool idea. It can be maddeningly intricate (make you think you're going blind), or elegantly simple. Will keep my eyes and ears out for this one. Post plenty of pics, ask lots of questions, that's what PR is famous for, helping out. Just do your homework beforehand (look through the other threads), we may have covered your question(s) before... That can save you a lot of time and headaches... MOD ON! | ||

| I did start ff with with the inention to files the edges smooth but it's really the corners i'm not sure on and the edges are still too jaggy anyway, should also buy some god files and ditch the 99p crappy set. The blue parts of the fornt panel i will be painting over. As for the power power button i will be ussing the old one from the case. I hope to try and find a way to mount it and attatch a peice of plexi for the bit that shows and so it lights up when it is pushed. I have a rough idea on how to light it up but i'll check it over on paper. Thos project may move slow cause i hav to beg borrow or buy the tools i need. | ||

| Yeah some parts still have to be filed but i have to file further back that i orinaly wanted because of the drill holes. there is a part in it i have to cut where the metal has ben turned. Also i am just trying to practice etching still a bit shakey yes i will be sanding the paint down i have painted my case before but no too well it started flaking off and stuff, so i want to do it all properly. i'll get pics for that if i can find the camera as for the dsign i have found the design i want althou a wee bit small and i am trying to enlarge it without being blocky I had hoped to do some of this a bit quicker should have some more done soon thou | ||

| Slight update. I have the side now mostly filed down so it is level, but the file i was using seemd to be a bit magnetic picking up the little filings. Also i may decide to change to a differant etch but will be a lot harder to pull off maybe but it will look much nicer. Progress has been slow but i hope to pick up speed now the weather is quite nice. I had a practice at etching on a scuffed peice of plexi it has it's mistakes where i couldn't follow the piliated printout too well but not too bad for a first time i would think. And finaly what would be a good thickness for plexi to drill holes for LED's | ||

| Thanks, it was my first real practice attempt, i made a few mistakes while following the design but if you should the design and the finnished attempt beside each other you would see what i ment to do at least.I also tried to see if i could neatly fill an area in but that will take some work to do. I should have more done in the next few days if the weather holds up nice since i have to do a lot of the work outside. | ||
