Not really a feedback thing......more like a mini how to. Seemed to fit here as well as anywhere else!
I recently had all my drives apart for painting. Everything turned out great, but, when I went to reassemble my FDD......disaster struck!
The little tab (axle) on the drive door that secures it to the case and allows it to open and close broke off!
You can see the little tab on the left, but on the right it is absent!
First there was much swearing!!! Then desperation:
Plan was to heat up a straight pin and melt it into the plastic, then cut off the excess pin. Result - you figure it out (terrible feckin plan)
Then I calmed down and got to work. I fashioned this little dumah-hickey out of a spare hose clamp and a dremel tool (I thought the slotted nature of the hose clamp metal would help with adhesion):
I then used a detail knife to scrap a bunch of plastic off the back of the floppy door to make a flat space for mounting.
The metal patch was secured to the floppy door with Plumber's Goop.
It worked like a charm! The drive is fully functional and the repair is completely invisible.
