| Well, not a full blown project yet. I have been designing the case in 3D for the past couple of days, so heres a render of what it should look like when done. Some of the parts are in the making, so I will have some REAL update pics soon. BTW: this is not a SFF case, it will be the size of a YY cube, which is what its based on. | ||

Naa, diamond plate is for redneck trucks. This is gonna have nuttin but chrome (on the stuff that needs it). I may chrome the interior. I need an idea for handles, everything Ive tried looks wierd on the case. Heres a night render with lights.

| Nice find on the handle chairman. Luna I love thos kind of crosses, I am by far a religious person but there's something about them i Like. I'm interested in how you'll be doing the front panel and i assume you'll be putting a removable mobo try in this eh? Gl on the project, ill be watching this ![]() | ||

| Nice find on the handle Chairman, thanks, that will be perfect. I will model them and add them to the model. Skulls, these crosses are the Maltese cross. I am not using them for religious purposes as I am far from religious myself. There will be a removeable mobo tray and it will sit horiz. on the bottom rather than vertical in the middle like most all other cube cases. The rear will be identical to the front and the I/O ports will be covered by a hatch like a front usb hatch seen on some cases. The optical drive (DVD-RW) will be external to keep the case clean, the enclosure will match. I am going to mod a PSU into a smaller/flatter unit so it will stay out of the way. EDIT: Heres a render with the handles and some balls, just for looks. Last edited by Lunamods; 20-August-04 at 02:51 AM.. | ||

| The 3D render looks awesome. You using 3D Max? I don't understand one thing though... if you're making it about the same size as a YY Cube case then why have so much stuff on the outside of the case? I mean, those cubes seem pretty damn big as it is... what are you planning to put inside the actual case? Either way this should be cool... man... those renders are cool... how long do they take to come out in that quality? I saw this render on DeviantArt.com that was maybe 1280x1024 and he said it takes him 30 minutes to render the single shot... | ||

Actually the YY cubes arent very big, they are about the size of a Cheiftec Dragon cut in half and sat side by side, thats it. Maybe a few inces taller. Modeled in Maya, and renderd in Maya using Mental Ray with HDRI and Final Gather. The last image took exactly 5min. 26sec. at 800x600, it took abot 9 mins. at 1280x1024, but the scene isnt that complex. The only reason it takes this long is Final Gather. If I were using the Maya software renderer instead of Mental Ray, with no Final Gather it would take less than a minute, but reflections and lighting wouldnt be natural. With a hardware render, if my card supported the shaders used, it would only take a few sec., but no hardware supports the shader network used for the chrome.

| I'm sorry, I know this is a bit off topic. But if it takes so long to render a single image what kind of hell am I in for when I go to art school in animation? You say that a hardware render makes a huge difference? Are there specific cards I should invest in? Geez.. college is expensive enough as it is. Why are you calling it the CFL Wasp? | ||

Yea, its going to be themed off that bike. I have some ideas for the interior to make it kind of look like a 130 c.i. S&S is sitting inside

| Apex Master Tech Apprentice | Nice Render and GL, can't wait to see it finished. The rendering process is very specific to a lot of different variables. In Luna's case, it is only taking 5 mins to render as the scene is not complex and with the rendering processes used. Change rendering process and the render time can go both ways (using Maya's would speed it up, using something else would slow it down.)Animations (like used in Pixar flicks) are done on multiple computers with multiple procesors (sp), all rendering something completely different, over and over again. Each frame has to be rendered individually in most cases, however it is an automated process that takes very little user interaction. If you are curious to see how it works (3D modeling and/or animation), a good place to start is Povray.org (Free Software Warning Again. I can't wait to see the case finished if it is anything like that render. | |

| Thanks alot TomBozo. That cleared up a lot for me as I actually would like to work for a company like Pixar when I am done with art school. It takes a lot of work, but I think I can pull it off with some effort. I too can't wait to see more of this case, it should be good. | ||
