When you gotta mod....

....you're probably too poor to afford anything neat.

That said, here's a little mod I threw together from stuff I tore out of old p166s... it proves that the niftiest mods can be simple to pull off.

See that? that's my case. Ugly, ain't it? You'll also notice, of course, the 5 1/4" floppy drive. I bet you're wondering if it's functional. It is, but not how you're thinking.

That's the inside of the drive. Look in that circle. See the grey dohicky? that's a switch. My power switch, to be exact. Turning the disk lock on the drive starts up my rig. Not too shabby for 3 minutes of work, eh?

This also fixes my meshing problem as stated in the other thread. With the power button relocated (I might make the big floppy LED the power LED as well), I don't need to keep that T of buttons and lights.

Now, to find my vinyl dye......

Woot ! heh due to the CAPS being in there way i had to cut a chunk out of it! and i lighten it by removing the PCB!

So Duplex, to solve you problem you modded a 5 1/4 as a power switch instead of getting a better lookign power switch elsewhere on the front. kinda confused on the why part?

it isn't because I couldn't get a better looking switch, I have tons of switches lying around here. I simply saw an oppurtunity and ran with it. Can't you understand that?

I did it for the same reason I do anything I do, because I want to, and because I can. I don't need any other reason. If you can't figure that out, you'll never really understand people.

that's on today's agenda, mentyl. Gonna paint all my drives, cut out some more fan holes, put a big-ass cooler on my video card, and retidy my wires. Hell, if I score some cash I'll cut an acrylic false floor to make it easier.
