| ok the case isn't an actual case. It's some sort of office equipment or something...found it @ my favorite getting place...was a steal i thought when I first saw it..hey a window mod! My brain got to thinking as I was poking around that salvage wearhouse and I just kept thinking about this cube. I think I finally came up with an Idea that i want to try, but I need lots of input on this thing. I want it clean and professional looking as possible. My Idea: 2 seperat PC systems 1 cooling loop thats chilled to sub zero the photos of the case below were taken in the back of my uber leet 84 nissan pickup. I will get figures on the actual dimensions soon, but for now to say it is HUGE will have to suffice. I could possibly get 5 or 6 systems in ther if they were stacked, but I am really just wanting 2 I have a 5800 BTU AC unit in my window that I think would better be used as a chiller. 1 asus A7N8X-DELUX mobo 1 ABIT AN7 mobo 1 Barton 2500+ AQXEA stable to 2.6 1 Mobile Barton 2500+ not tested (just picked up on Chrome Rust's recomendations) 1 RBX waterblock 1 Swiftec CPU waterblock 1 swiftec GPU waterblock 1 Radeon 9600XT 2 256 BOBO DDR400 Needed parts: 1 agp 4x/8x vid card 2 256 DDR400 1 GPU waterblock as you can see this unit has a drawer in the bottom. I was thinking that would be a great place for the chiller res, but I got to thinking about having to pull the drawer out to axs the res...need some thoughts on this. I am unsure if I want the mobos on the side walls or on the bottom of the case. I want them to take center stage, but the main problem I ran into with this is acessing the pulgs and USBs. I am more than willing to relocate the usb ports, but I am thinking that everything else still needs to be gotten to rather easily, could use some suggestions here. I thought about the boards in the middle on trays and angled towards the front, but the port problem keep rearing it's ugly head. I might mill the AGP and a set of NB and SB waterblocks myself. Now as some of you may have already guessed I DO NOT want to load this case up with insulation. So to battle condensation I had a brilliant Idea (ok ok I think it will work) the chilled water, which I am guessing will get to -30 from my studies, will pass thry a caprice heatercore and the blower that i use to cool it now will push air thru the fridgid heatercore into the case to drop it's temps enough to avoid condensation in the case. So now we need to sort some kind of Case insulation.I thought about some of that Chrome coverd insulation board thruout the inside of the case. Would give alot of reflection for the lighting too.. there should be enough room in the case for the chiller guts as well. I would appreciate any and all Ideas on this case design. ANYTHING through it out there! | ||

| as you can see in the photos there is some damage to the case. I need somebody with body working experince to help me sort the proper way to get these out. I own and operate a small engine repair shop so doing this sort of work isn't foriegn to me, just when I bank out a bent mowing deck it isn't for looks, just function. I plan on putting casters on the bottom of this baby as I suspect it is going to get quite heavy! here are some more pics | ||

| Direct Cool Hoe | Right ON!!... There will be alot of room in there for everything. I like your idea on on using the 6000BTU phasechange unit for the chiller. I'll see if I can dig up some images of other designs as far as the chiller part goes. What I didn't like about them was the fact that they just hung the gear any ol place. Looks to me like you got that handled...way cool and pimp to boot... ![]() | |

| I'm thinking that if you don't want to add more windows, the best way to show off both MB's might be to place them in the center, standing.... so that if you were to look down you would be looking at a V shaped layout. Also, how about adding a sliding tray along the bottom (I'd use ball bearing drawer slides) so you can open the door and slide them both right out for the ultimate in easy access. | ||

excellent Idea..maybe with the room you could put some curney casters on it that pop down when the tray slides out to support the wieght. Only problem I see there is that the whole cooling mech would have to slide with it..hoses and all. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| took some actuallmeasurements today. 27 1/4 tall 22 1/2 deep 24 1/2 wide 21 1/2 useable inside area -drawer BIG! still trying to sort out the cable problems. any Ideas on how to lengthen them. I can faintly recall some sort of retractable cable extension devices. would be nice to be able to slide the mobo trays out and the cables would fallow and then wrap themselves back up (retract) | ||

| I don't think you'll have enough weight on the drawer to need casters. Ballbearing slides are available which can handle more than enough weight for what you're doing. I'd personally use two or three of these. They're rated up to 35lbs. each. Look here for more in different configurations. the ones which mount to the sides suppor the most weight, but will be more visible. As for the wiring you could make a spring loaded armature of sorts to fold the cables nicely as the drawer is closed. I think I might have to draw it out..... that'll have to wait until tomorrow though. EDIT: how about these beasts? Available with an extension depth of up to 60" and some of the mount configurations support up to 375lbs! Last edited by CRE; 04-August-04 at 01:50 AM.. | ||
