Default Project: Xbox Move

Well I know some of you have seen my Xbox that I posted on here a little while back...

http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread.php?t=19019

But it's getting a little boring for me. (The cover of this case will be for sale if anybody is interested) So now my Xbox is moving to a new home. Thanks to our own Monsignor, I have a new case for it.

http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread.php?t=18991

You'd think there would be plenty of room in this beast for the Xbox, but it's actually a little tight. There's open space in some places, but the DVD is gonna be bumping the motherboard in others. I've got a few original (I hope) ideas planned for this one, and I just started work today. As I don't have access to a digital camera, there will be a lack of pictures in this thread. Sorry guys. Today I put a layer of bondo on the front. I want to smooth the whole thing out and stealth the drive there. I had to fill in the hole for the 3.5 bay and the spot for the badge and all the lights and those two lines you see across it. Still working on this. I also cut out the bottom of my Xbox, as I figured that would be the easiest way to mount the motherboard in the case. The motherboard now screws directly into its own "motherboard tray" that will be secured to the bottom of the case. Same goes for the PSU mounting. I had to hack a little to the case, and I'm still not entirely sure how i'm going to make the back look good. I have a lot planned for this, and I'll tell you as I go along.

Well here's an update, though not a big one.

The front is nearly smooth now, I used bondo to fill all of the big holes and such--but it still had some small holes in places, like pinholes. So I used some wood filler to fill in those and that seemed to work okay. I guess we'll find out. Once that is done I will work on cutting out a 5.25 peice of the front to put the DVD drive in. I'll also work on installing the power buttons and switches for fans, lights, etc. Plus I have another little something for the front that I'm going to keep under wraps for a little longer.

While I'm working on fitting everything in and working on the case, I'm also trying to figure out some of the hardware issues. I'm trying to decide on what modchip I should use right now.
The features I want from my chip are:
1. Swap hard drive for larger one.
2. Rip games to hard drive and play them from there.
3. Read mp3 discs and also rip them to hard drive.
4. Still retain all normal Xbox functions.
5. No soldering.

If any of you guys have a recommendation, that would be awesome.

That's it for updates for now. I might have some low-quality pics tomorrow of the front piece.

Invest in some Glazing Putty (not sure what it would be called anymore as the tubes I have are quite old) its basically just thick primer... its used for the same thing you used the wood putty for...

Where would I score some of that Twizted? Home Depot? Wal-Mart? I've heard mention of it on here but never seen it in stores.

Also, forgot to mention earlier, but my old Xbox case pictured in the above linked thread is officially for sale now. It's just the top piece. All you have to do is unscrew the screws on bottom, remove your top casing, and then screw mine on. If you're interested PM me.

You should be able to find Glazing putty at about any auto shop that carries painting and body repair products... Bondo makes it.....

The Xenium ICE is a good chip, if you want one let me know I can hook you up for $55 w/solderless adapter. I also have pre-configed 200GB drives for $130. Ive been selling them on ebay for $159. I had one sell for $270, Yippeee

Xbox Media Center is the dash/app of choice for all the features you want.

If you get a drive larger than 137GB make sure you use a bios with LBA48 support enabled or one that supports it so you can enable it, so you can use all space above 137.

Well today I tried to fit everything in the Xbox and get in mounted solid, and ran into some problems. My original layout just won't work because of the DVD drive interfering with the motherboard. I have to re-arrange everything, and this includes taking out the 3.5 inch drive bay that the hard drive was supposed to mount in. Not having the easiest time getting that out, and I need some more dremel cutting wheels. After that comes out though I should be able to make some progress.

Let me guess...the DVD cable is too short? Just make an extension if this is the case. You may need a longer IDE cable too.

EDIT: OOPS I thought you said INTERFACING not INTERFERING , my bad. In that case cut tha ****a up
