| Hello everyone, I am new to this site and I was told it was a good site for suggestions.. Here is what I got: AMD Athlon XP-M 2500+ "mobile" 1.87Ghz running at 2400Mhz stable.. "overclocked" Shuttle AN35/N Ultra motherboard Geforce FX 5200 Videocard running at "340Mhz core/342Mhz memory Overclocked" 256MB Kingston 2100 266Mhz Ram ![]() ![]() "Running at 300Mhz overclocked"40GIG western digital 7200Rpm 500Watt PSU "not a good brand" Chieftec Dragon Case "BLUE" Dual 12" Dual UV Tubes Dual UV BLUE 80mm Exhaust fans Dual 80MM intake fans All UV BLUE IDE/FLOPPY cables 8x DVD-R drive Thermaltake Dragon orb 3 7000RPM CPU fan running my CPU at 41C Idle 50C Fully loaded... I am taking suggestions on what I can do to improve my system. You can say I got an Athlon 3400+ CPU for 88$... I am running my FSB at 200x2 "400FSB" with my muliti set at 12. I have my ram voltage set at 1.70. .I am getting better Ram and a water cooling kit and a better PSU... I was wondering on what was the best product for the price.. I am on a limited budget. I am hoping to get 2500-2600mhz out of this CPU.. Any suggestion will be appreciated. | ||

I need better Ram anyways and I just "scored" some 333Mhz DDR 256MB from a "friend" ...lolYou do have a good point about the watercooling... But i think if i can get 200mhz more it will be definatly better and plus water cooling looks cool and is coming down in price.... If i get water cooling I might be able to go higher than 2600mhz... Who knows.....Might as well try.... Thanx for the reply tho.....

Okay, I get it. I wasn't trying to say you shouldn't do it... sometimes I just want to hear why... you know what I mean? RAM isn't ever a bad thing to buy in my opinion, because it's easy to use up the old stuff. I also agree that watercooling looks cool when done right. It can also look like a mess, so I'm interested in seeing some before and after shots of your PC if you don't mind. And I think I forgot before, welcome to PR.

Maybe, like many other people, what you call "trouble", we call fun.

| if you are running at 2400mhz, you are insane for wanting to buy a diffchip seeing as how 2400mhz on an 2500 is freakin awesome (im running 2.2 and im thrilled), you want a suggestion, LEAVE THE CPU ALONE, upgrade your ram, period, get some good DDR400 and run it in sync with your cpu, THAT will give you a noticeable performance increase, i promise...btw, my suggestion happens to be the easiest, and least expensive way out.... | ||

Agreed! I am using a SP-97, and it does way better than my friends mid range watercooling system. He has the Mobile 2600+ at 2.4ghz with 55c load temps, using only 1.7v! Keep what you have, just upgrade the HSF and RAM, Sandra shows my 2500+ @ 2.6GHZ with a performance rating of 3700+ ![]()

| Yeah, fu3lman's talkin' sense here. Your best bet is in new ram. Also, and don't take this as an insult, but if you put things in "quotes" one more time when they don't need to be, I'll probably explode. Last edited by Dakas; 04-July-04 at 02:29 PM.. Haha, I actually thought his > "scored" some RAM from a "friend" < was hilarious. But tell me "Dakas" does "this" bother "you" "?" haha, just kidding man. We all have our little pet peeves. Oh, and I guess I should say congratulations on your extreme overclock. ![]() | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I agree with Fu3lman and Necro here, with one exception. It seems that they overlooked your generic PSU (I am sure it was just an oversight). You will also need a decent PSU to help with better OCs. FYI, I have been able to run my XP2000 up to just over 2.4GHz on that same Shuttle board with PC2700 HyperX and sub-par air cooling. PM me for some additional links if you are interested in doing some more research on your own. | ||

| IIRC, the enermax noisetaker line has a 370w in the $60 range. oh, and M$man - one time i went postal in an office because they had signs posted where they used quote marks instead of bold and underline. I have no idea why it bothers me so much, but incorrect punctuation kills me! no problems with capitalization though ![]() | ||
