Default Proliant 6000 cube

I picked up this monster case from work today. I plan to gut it and see what I can do with it. The top section (approx 6" x 18" x 24") would be big enough for a system by itself but, the lower area is huge! (approx 18" x 18" x 24") I'll be posting some pics of the internals later this evening. Anyone ever cracked open one of these?

Just slightly larger than the case I just moved into. I love it for several reasons:
1) mobo mounts upside down on opposite side of case (actually mobo tray splits case in half)
2) 11 x 5.25" external bays, 2 x 3.5" ext. bays, room for several larger drive cages in the "IDE/SCSI/SATA device" side of the case.
Nice score...... I am sure you are gonna love it, my temps have dropped by an average of 6 degrees C idle and about 4-5 at full load using CoolMon but I will be hooking up a temp probe from the Enermax multi-panel when I get that Zalman I have been wanting for so long. With my new mobo configuration, I can now fit it in my new case without having to worry about PSU clearance.

Check out Ebay Chrome. They have a few fully functioning systems up for sale. Quad proc systems for around 100 bucks. Shipping would be outrageous though.

Default Shots from home

As you can see, there are plenty of drive bays. This box was still functioning as a file server when decomissioned so the 4.3gb ultra wide scsi drives in the bottom still work. I think it has 2 pentium pro 200's inside and 512mb ram. Would make a great folder if not slated for the torch and dremel! I'll post some more pics of the inside later today.

You realize that you can order 4x 500mhz P3 Xeon's to fit in there? You can get the upgrades off of ebay for el cheapo. Might be worth it if you add an extra 512MB of RAM and it would be a sweet folder or server.

I really don't think that PIII Xeons would fit in Pentium Pro sockets. I think 200MHz was the limit on those. I do plan to keep those big honkin' heat sinks though .... I have no idea what I'll do with them .... yet

I have no idea what I'm going to do with this thing. So many possibilities ... I'm kinda fishing for ideas at this pont. I was thinking about trying phase change or multiple motherboards .... maybe Intel and AMD .... call it Two-Face

Default Okay ....

Since there is no real feedback as to what might be a good plan here, how about water cooling on the top side, vapo-chill and drives on the left and mb on the right .... chrome and windows on all three panels and replaceing the front doors with smoked plexi?

Thanks, Juice. Not bad for a gimme. Lots of possibilities there ... I was counting on the guys and galls here on PR to kickstart my imagination a bit and give me some good ideas. To be honest, I was beginning to lose hope. What do you think of that idea and do you have any others?

water cooling, amd, amd, xbox.

i was gunna build in a periferal switch into a bay and be able to use the amd's and the xbox on same stuff with a few flips. also thought of just having several amd's and running a nice lil cluster.

was gunna use xbox for dvd player, im not remotly fond of consol games...

then i reaized that they still use this money stuf....... and i dont have any....when wll they learn!

I must say ... I've always used Intel; That's not to say that I've not been very tempted by the dark sid as of late The X-Box thing is something I've considered. I have some buds at Microsoft that say it's possible to deploy the inards of an X-Box to a PC and have the thing initiate an emulation layer upon activation ... Unfortunately, I'll have to dig about a bit to find that layer. Would love to do that ... being the Halo addict that I am. I'm sure the other X-Box game would rock on a hotrod PC.
