Default Good computer for work?

IÂ’m building a computer thatÂ’s just going to be used for work. Its going to be on a cable connection by itself, no network and Its going to be running windows XP professional. Its not for games just going to be running basic programs for work. Here is a list of the specs, does this sound like a good PC for the job?

Abit NF-7 motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
Maxtor 40GB 7200 RPM HDD
Asus 52X CD-drive
Kingston 256MB PC2100 – Retail
APEX Super Case with 350W Power Supply
Sony 3.5 inch Floppy

The only thing IÂ’m not sure what to go with is the heatsink. What would be a good budget heatsink that will cool the 2000?

Everything is good, mabey more ram, but why do you have a top of the line overclocking mobo in that list? DO you really need the SATA or all the other features it has, get a cheaper one.

Use the stock HS with the retail 2000+. Put the heatsink in the freezer, scrape the thermal pad on it off, clean the residue off with acetone, and then use some Ceramique instead.

Yah, I know...I recommended the Zalman 7000 before, but since you want budget there you have it

Another consideration would be to get PC2700 RAM instead. Running at a 166 FSB will be faster, equaling more impressive to the guy.

Tycoon, that's the non-SATA Soundstorm version.

And I think everything is fine. If you're using a stock heatsink, that means no overclocking (which you said you weren't gonna do), which means no need for PC2700 (2000+'s run on 133 FSB).

That'll work fine for ya

the 256 should be enough ram for what he's doing, thanks for the heatsink suggestion

Chrome, no soundstorm on that board.

And for 68 bucks for the motherboard (NF7) I'd just pick up a cheapo PCI at WalMart or somethin for like, 20 bucks, still cheaper than an NF7-M (98 bucks)
