putting my first computer together has been easier than expected this goes in to that blaa blaa blaa. until i came to the ide cables, the mother board came with 2 one with two connecters and one with 3. i have one hhd and one cdreader i have put the 3 cable connecter pluging them all in to ide 1 the shorter lenght of wire between the cd and hdd is this right or am i going to burn down my house when i turn it on please help

MOBO IDE1 - short cable - hard drive
MOBE IDE2 - long cable - optical 1 - optical 2

You want the HDD by itself on IDE1 and the slower components on IDE2.

some motherboards have color coded the IDE1 and the Shorter Ribbon Cable Blue....
If you have blue on the shorter cable put that on the hard drive and in the blue IDE1 Socket if such exists on your board
