| Alright, in light of seeing Jonnys setup its really made me wan't to make my new computer desk, I have been thinking about it for a long time. I made myself a drawer for my tshirts and such out a of metal tubing and painted wood, I didn't start the computer desk becuase you have to have something to go on. I have at my disposal a mufller shop ( for metal tube bending) a car paint booth (to paint it) and 3 types of welders to put it together. I want this to look really cool...dont limit yourself to a square desk. I want the monitors raised up a level (Like Jonnys setup) so i can put papers, food and lighting under it to shine down on the keyboard. I also need room for a router and a modem i was thinking of putting another level above my monitors for those things and my printer. ![]() This stuff in that picture is real pictures of the stuff im using. I know this may be asking to much...but i dont need anything special..just paint sketches... Thanks, TYCOON ![]() EDIT: the one keyabord and mouse is wireless if that matters.. | ||

| Etiquette & English Gentleman | Thought a daylight shot of my setup might help: ![]() It's basically 2 open "wardrobes" (like server racking) with the shelves moved & the hanging rails removed, tube tied together. The monitor & keyboard shelves are topped off with 10mm plywood, covered in vinyl. The lowermost shelves are topped off with 1" chipboard as it's all I had lying around It's still a work in progress, & I will finish it eventually, with some storage better than those cardboard boxes.Lighting is by 2 CCs mounted under the monitor shelves, powered by a modularised PSU that sits on the desk. The two PCs (the Antec Super Lanboy & the dark grey Cheiftec) share the silver monitor, leftmost kb & mouse via a KVM; the towered Amiga (the copper one) uses the black monitor, centre mouse & right keyboard, there's not really enough room for the A600 at the right end, but that uses the blue monitor. The printer & scanner are connected to the Lanboy, and there's also a cable between the composite out on the video card & the secondary input on the black monitor. Soundwise, the Lanboy is plugged into a Create 5.1 setup, with the 2 Amigas & the second PC connected to the HiFi amp via a switch box (I did have them individually plugged into a 4.1 & two 2.0 setups, but that just took up to much room). Overall, my "desk" is 5'10" wide & 5'9" tall. I'm not going to sketch out my suggestions as I've got no skill in that direction, but I do have a few ideas: * I think you need the same amount of space, so I'd suggest you build something almost as big - but without the centre verticals, but with some diagonal bracing to make up for it; * Even if you don't want a rectangular desk, I'd suggest you still make a rectangular frame - you don't want your desk doing a "French Airport" on you, you could make the shelves sculpted or oval though; * one thing my desk lacks is castors/sliders - these are pretty essential if you want to have the thing pushed up to a wall, but still be able to get behind it to deal with the wiring - mine is still a mess, but being able to get behind it to tie the cables up helped a lot (it was pushing it back, fully loaded that was the problem); * you'll need to fix on some bits to keep the cables in check too - this could be as simple as lots of rings welded on to give you something to tie on to; * I could also do with some method of fixing it to the wall - with 2 Chieftec housed rigs on the bottom shelf it's not that top heavy, but it's potentially a problem - some sort of quick release doodad would be great - maybe a plate with a pipe welded on to it fixed to the wall, and a similar fitting with a slightly smaller pipe on the desk would work, a few holes & a big pin would make the whole thing pretty secure. ![]() | |

| Im not so good with PS so ill throw out some ideas. What about combining the look of OMG_WTF_DUDE's desk with Johnnys. Tall as hell and wide as hell but with a kickout in the center for your keyboard to slide out of. Also you could have a built in chair that slides out. Or you could just be a cheapass like me and get one from walmart and cut the hell out of it. BTW we should start a Desk thread where we could show off our trashed out or pimped out desks. | ||

| So Johnny um where exactly do you sit at? I was thinking of doing something like that with a nice shelving unit because I have a serious lack of space, but I couldn't figure out how I would sit because I have a racing wheel. You need a place to put your legs and more importantly your pedals. Dave needs to be comfortable doing 250 mph through Taledega. Also Nice Computer Case. Looks a HELL of a lot cleaner than mine tho'. | ||

In front of the keyboard on the left, mostly. It's a bit cramped, but it's a choice between that or not having so many rigs in use. Definately no room for pedals at present. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
