Default Athlon 64 3400 new machine

My friend and I spent the past week buying and building his computer. We bought all the parts from a Japanese computer store: an ASUS K8SV Deluxe and an Athlon 64 CPU. We did some research before buying these and everything looked good.

After a few difficulties, we got the computer to work. After a friend told him that he should have gone with a P4 3.4, he looked online and seems a little upset that the P4 is 3400MHz and the 64 is 2200MHz. I tried to tell him that performance should be just about equal, but I really don't know enough to really convince him that he had made a bad purchase..... can you guys tell me what to explain to him? or am I completely wrong?

Tell him to do a couple of benchmarks and compare to the P4 and see the real difference........then he'll change his mind about the 64........

Also let your friend know that there are very few apps coded for the 64 bit chip, but that will change later this year when Windows releases a 64 bit version of their OS. Once he teams that chip up with some 64 bit apps, The AMD64 and Intel chips will look like the Roadrunner and Coyote.

Biggest mistake was that motherboard. Can't overclock with crap on it. Should have got a Gigabyte or Chaintech with the Nforce3 250 chipset that actually locks the PCI bus or a AOpen which got the PCI bus lock to work with the NForce3 150.

AMD64 mobos are the exact opposit of the socket As and Intel boards - it's the revenge of what used to be known as "budget manufacturers" that were viewed as subpar and the main guys like Asus are lacking.
