| Well it seems it will soon be time to start another mod project as soon as i finish my current mod. I recently acquired an OLD school case from school. it is an HP NetServer 5/100 which is a double wide server case with a "mid tower" profile from the side. it is not atx form factor so it will have to be heavily modded to make it work. i could not pass this thing up...it is made of very heavy gauge steel....its a tank. inside is still a motherboard with the pentium CPU and 128MB RAM on a sepperate removable card with some crazy connectors on the back and 6 removable 4GB HDD's, 4x CD rom, and floppy drive.....PM if youre interested in any of that. it will have a completely custom front bez dual windows no matter what and possibly dual top windows. i will be putting new hardware in it and also water cooling. what i am thinking of doing is making a "dual independant convection system" which will have one complete system for the VPU and RAM along with another complete system for the CPU and NB and maybe a few other items. there would be 2 6" fans like the one i have on my current case, 2 heater cores, 2 res's, and 2 pumps. i know this could be considered "rediculous" or "overboard" but i think it would be cool. the other thing is that i would be able to have 2 sepperate colors of fluid which would awesome IMO. my second idea is this:...i just remembered i have an 8" stainless steel ball that NEEDS to be made into a res with a couple of 4" uv CC's in it with "nautical" windows as decog pointed out....and i strongly agree. in that case i would make this case a "nautical" theme and the res would resemble one of those early deep sea diving helmets. it would most likely have 3 or 4 circular windows with .25" lexan winows and a brass frame bolted on by several stainless machine screws along with a few stainless hoses coming out for good measure. inthis case i think i would attach it to the top of the case by welding it to a heavy steel frame. well, let me know what you think or any ideas that come to mind, well.....not any ideas....but good ideas | ||

What?....How the hell do you just have an 8" steel ball lying around?....and where can I get one? Looking forward to seeing the project. Glad to see people making logs. They can help out more than guides sometimes. I think I'm gonna have to post my own if I ever get some pics taken.P.S.--That res just got me thinking. A hollow bowling ball res....or even better, a coconut. That would be something. What could be cooler than a coconut reservoir? It's 5 AM. What can I can? ![]()

| I've got a pair of steel balls.. oh, wait... Ne ways; that looks pretty schaweet Lyquid; just don't leave the outside blank; maybe white with some rust on the edges and put a big nautical window (the round ones w/ tons of bolts) on either side AND the top; make it look like a rusted capsul.. my 2 cents | ||

| 8" steel ball, going to add nautical looking windows, use it as a reservoir. SOunds to me like it's begging to become a submersion cooled mini-itx case to me. Get a lap-top HD and CDROM, mini-itx mobo, etc. Make an enclosure underneath for the drives and PSU connections, whatever else. Fill the ball with that fluid that Duckwarrior is playing with or something else that's suitable. | ||

| oh yep the hp netservers - lotsa room in there, but as uve said, HP custom form factors suck. Dell did the same thing around that sort of era - like a mucho " i can build my own mobo ma!" thing. out of curiosoty, is the case on the heavy side? i remember them being like re enforced concrete breeze blocks. | ||

| Wow! What a coincidance. I just got myself into an old HP Netserver case as well! I can't remember the model, because it's not sitting right in front of me, but it was a dual P1 233 MhZ. It had 6 SCSI HDD's and a power supply bigger than my current computer. I will post more details and a project plan sometime in the next few weeks, but I can't let myself get distracted from my current project! I look foreward to seeing what you've done to yours so I can use some of the tips for mine. | ||

Wow what a neat idea. I can't imagine where you would come up with such a crazy idea. That server looks as though it's going to fit right in with your current case, they will be looking pretty rad. Btw shouldn't you be doin homeowork instead of loose marker sketches for side projects?? LOLsee you later tonight -DC

| thanks for all the feedback guys.....
lol....well.....all you have to do is befriend someone who's dad is a boiler maker and who knows you like odd stuff to build/modd things.
trust me, i already thought about that as soon as i heard he was going to give it to me. problem is....its an 8" circle and a mini ITX is an 8" square...wont fit.
yes....with all the HDD's it weighs about 55+ lbs.
yes...this thing will most likely be going on the floor. this thing would be the ultimate LAN rig because the top will hold: your largest CRT monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, and anything else you could have like beer, soda, and chips n' dip. well.....it seems as thought the SS ball is the favorite for the res and i do like the idea. im having a hard time parting with it cause i thought about making an animatronic spider out of it seeing as thats what i go to school for...hmmm.....tough decision. oh well. it will look pimp. well....here are some pics.
