Default Project: BADWORD!!!

Well, things are shaping up at last.

The vendor just called - my Abit motherboard is back in from DOA replacement, My ATI card is back from replacement, and I'm trading up my Corsair 3700 to 4000 this evening for free.

Not only that, I finally chose a canvas for my mod...and it was FREE to boot.

It's an old Ultinet computer case. What I like about it is its simplicity - no premod windows, and a simple bezel. Here's some pics of the lucky bastard:

Basically this is getting some red/gold Duplicolor Mirage paint on the outside, and glossy black on the inside. Windows will be smoked acrylic. There will be 2 120mm fans in this puppy too; placement still TBD.

I'm reeeeeally debating about the lighting colour scheme. I reeally like blue. But everyone has blue, so I'm thinking maybe to go red lighting to go with the red/gold morph paint. I'll toss this about my head for the next little while and make a decision later. For now, I'm going to cut the windows and prepare for paint.

The bezel is getting some bondo treatment. Buttons and LED's will both be removed, 3.5" drives will be shaved as well as the slits in the front at the bottom.

Lemme know what you think...suggestions are welcome too.

It seems pretty sturdy...I hate flimsy cases.

It's not Al, sorry...I got it off of a guy named Jonathan. (thanks bud ) He originally bought the computer from Ultinet, a computer dealer here in Canada. The Athlon he put in it up & died, so I sold him a whole new computer complete with premod case and he said I could have the old one. I gave him a chocolate bar.

Well im not to sure about CCL colors but the paint is gonna look insane on the front of that case...Have you thought about putting some type of fans in the front...like 60mm for a blowhole?

Another update...between overtime, kids, wifey, refinishing the basement, and a myriad of other projects for friends, this is going to be one slooow project...I hope to get to work on it regularly though, because my wife keeps asking for a computer at home. I won't put it up until it's done properly.

Anyhoo, here's what I got done this weekend. Not much, but I think I solved the 'Dremel vs. Jigsaw' debate. I have both. I used a Dremel to cut out a blowhole in my last case. It took me 2 hours and about 7 cutting discs. Pissed me (and the wife) right the hell off. Yesterday, I hook up the jigsaw with a fine-tooth blade for cutting thin metal/plastic. High tooth count. In about 3 minutes of cutting this was the result:

There's some burrs after cutting that needed to be cleaned up, but the Dremel made short work of that.instead of using files (which I don't have) I used the cutting disc as a sander, and passed it over all edges a few times. Now they're clean cut, smooth and burr-free. Best of all, I didn't shred any flesh and I'm still married

Be aware though: If you do go the jigsaw route (and I totally reccommend it) WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES! I'm not pooping you. There were metal bits flying everywhere when I was doing this. I had to send the kiddies upstairs - the wife would be upset if she came down and they were all bleeding from the eyes.

Hell Yes Bro...I have replaced several lenses in my safety glasses, that bear the scars of potential blindess.. and I keep them clean and clear so I don't loose fingers trying to see around the crud on dirty scratched lenses...Word!

An update:

Bought the Bondo for the front of the case, and borrowed a palm sander to smoooooth it out and prepare for painting.

Not that exciting, I know...but here's the exciting part...

True to the project name, another BADWORD!!! has been added. While pimpin' benchies on my new rig, I got the fokker up to 3.34. PCM04 hung, and I grabbed the trusty screwdriver to reset the system. This thing's not in a case, remember...

OH CRAP!!! I hit the wrong pins. Now the motherboard is hosed AGAIN. Fans, but no postie. I'm going to hook up a speaker this afternoon and test all the other parts on an Intel board I have here, just to verify that it's the board I hosed and nothing else.

It looks like back to RMA she goes again...

I clocked her till she smoked, but when I went to back it off half a turn, I turned the wrong way. DOH!!!

Damn PJ, I thought I was the jinx.
We're going to have to bring you over an ati-static suit and tie your hands behind your back if this goes much farther...lmao
I think I would have snapped by now, and destroyed something beyond the point of being RMA'd...lol

The case is looking good so far bro. Maybe try red lighting with puple LED fans?

I think I'm leaning toward red lighting all around, but purple sounds great too...still have to decide though... I'll also be implementing a suggestion from I'm Gumby (he made it in another thread) that will be unnamed until it's done.

I have the patience of Job...remember - I have 4 little boys...

heh...good call on the mobo in the pic (older Asus supporting AMD chips on SDRAM)...that's not mine though.

Spec is as follows:

P4 2.4c @ 3.3GHz
2x 256MB Corsair TwinX XMS RAM PC4000
Abit IC7-G
3x WD 40GB SE drives
Built by ATI Radeon 9500 Pro 128MB
Antec 400w PS

Only went Intel because the chip was FREE.

Yep..one of the worst feelings is to have something "BADWORD" on ya before you've even had the chance to wring her out..

I have had close calls, and killed one in the pits testing memory modules..Either way feels about the same..Like you swallowed a Bag of Rocks

BTW wich way were you turning the screwdriver?
