| I came across this site a while back and it's got me interested in building an awesome machine, but before I spend too much time and money, I need a little help with the basics... I am interested in case modding, but I don't think the rest of my computer is at the level to where I should start working on the looks of it. My specs: HP pavilion 1.3 GHz AMD i think? 256 RAM I know I can't really upgrade this into an awesome machine, but is there anything that I can do to get a little experience??? Is there any software that is a "must have?" I've got a lot of questions and I really appreciate any reply! Inazma | ||

| Well, with the board in that i would not imagine you can do much in ways of upgrading CPU, faster memory and such. But depending on what the case looks like you could probably make it a first good case mod. It never hurts to use an old case like that do cut your teeth on. First off a few questions 1. Post a pic of the case so we could give you some tips on things to mod. 2. What modding equipment do you have i.e. dremmel, jigsaw, power drills 3. if you want to start over, what is your cash flow like (cash not always important on modding the case but always important on buying the parts) 4. what is in your mind. modding isnt about making something people want, it is about making your ideas a reality ::EDIT:: Welcome to PR. Everyone was a noob at one time, questions and experimenting are ways to advance.... that and an occasionaly fried CPU or GPU!!!! | ||

| thanks for the quick reply... i'll try to get a pic up soon. i have almost every tool that i think i'd need... i work in an auto shop and have easy access to a dremel, jigsaws, soldering iron... plasma cutters? old car stereos? i'd say my budget is about $500 a month, but i don't want to spend too much until i know what i'm doing. as far as ideas go, i'd really like to see what i'm capable of first... | ||

| Cool, visit the gallery and get some ideas. Basics on modding the case are windows, extra fans, paintjob, sleeveing and such. THIS link is a good place to start on tutorials. most of hte questions on "what is the best way to cut a window" "how do i paint the case". Most important thing on modding is your imagination. Let your mind guide you. there is basically no bad thing (with the exception of a cardboard case) that oyu can do. practical is very important. dont mount fans in odd places. man, the options are endless. | ||

| Youre in the right place to learn Inazma. Just cruise the gallery and forums, and you'll pick up alot of ideas and info. Theres plenty of people with lesser systems housed in well modded cases. Surf and plan out what kind of mods you might like to do and go from there. Before you know it, you'll be a full fledged addict like the rest of us...lol Welcome to PR. | ||
