UPDATES BELOW **UPDATED 4/08/04** ok i got myself a nice little atx case that im gonna mod. i saw pics of a mod here where the fans looked like turbine fans(with the little cone and everything). i want to extend on that idea and basically have even turbine-looking casing in the front. basically i plan to use a lot of bondo and mold it around household items like plastic containers so i can get it to look good. in the end, i plan on having it be a dark dark blue with a blue light-scheme. also ill be adding windows to the side and top(and possibly the other side) here are pics of the case so far, and 1 sketch of the front. i might still play with the design a bit. ![]() Last edited by davidkruta; 08-April-04 at 08:06 PM.. | ||

| thanks for the tips. heres some pics of the planning stages window in the top, just getting measurements down, i might put a nice design or a blowhole there. the frame below it needs to be cut out too, thats just gonna be a standard shape. the front plate and fan position. definitely not gonna look like that when im done. maybe this container will work as a support for the bondo? well see. | ||

| ok well heres the next advancement, i took the container and made a nice turbine housing out of it with bondo, a dremel, and sandpaper. i also drilled new holes for the leds. ![]() ![]() ![]() i know it doesnt look smooth, but thats the color variation of the bondo, u gotta keep mixing it. its really damn smooth. i also made the little cone on the turbine, but it was offcenter and broke off when i tried to fix it, so now ive got ideas on how to make a new/better one, so ill keep you guys updated. | ||

| i did use a model rocket cone and it came out off center. ive actually built myself a semi-lathe out of a drill so im gonna put the fan out there and lathe out my own custom shape into some bondo, that way its guaranteed to be centered and i can put my own design into it. | ||

| and some more updates on the cut case. ![]() ![]() ![]() as you can see, ive cut out the top, 2 120mm fan holes, and ive added feet to the bottom, because i want to put lights and a window on the bottom. goin to home depot tomorrow to get the rest of the stuff i need (plexi and such). then ill get to work on the windows. i also just ordered 4 ccfls(blue) and 2 sound reactive inverters, and 3 blue leds that i want to shine down over the cd drives. | ||

| more updates, i spent all day cutting the panels and plexi(not done) and i painted the front. lets take a look! here is the side w/ the plexi behind it just for show(plexi has protective coloring, thats why its blue) thats the top, all cut out and waiting for a fan. heres my fan, i broke it while trying to lathe out the cone, but being resourceful(and cheap) i bondoed the fins back on. a couple more pics of the fan(its primed now) the case kinda assembled. imho, it looks brilliant. and more pics of the case. you can see i painted the front panel, looks really good so far, still gotta resand and repaint tho. then im putting on some clear acrylic protectant and some wax. the jigsaw i used to cut the panels. this thing can cut like 50 times the speed of a dremel, and it comes out so much cleaner. my homemade lathe, this is what made(and broke) my fan. btw, the fan is made of semi-dense foam with 2 layers of bondo on top. light and custom. and just to show off, this is the studio where i work(its my dads, but what can i say, im only 17) thats it for updates for today, next time i hope to be almost done. the cold cathodes and leds should be here any day. | ||
