| Well I've decided to splurge and treat myself to a new case. A really nice new case. So I've ordered a Zalman GT 1000. And I'd thought I'd post it up and see what kind of ideas PCApex could come up with for it. So far I've decided to pull all the stock fans and replace them with the Nexus black and white fans. And since these extremely quiet fans will probably drop the cfm a bit, I'll add one or two more 120's. Maybe with some mnpctech billet fan grills? I'll most likely be using at least one Sunbeam fan controller. They handle a insane amount of amperage and just don't ever fail. I thought I'd change out the stock knobs for some guitar speed knobs. I already checked, they fit perfectly. I've also got a Zalman ZM-MFC2, I'm not sure about it though. I'm also considering adding some ten inch long-board trucks and skateboard wheels. What do you think? | ||

hmmm ...you can actually find the logo plates on Ebay. Maybe it's the scale, but I'm not crazy about it. I'm not sure I want to get caught up in a "theme" either.

| Mike, I'm green with envy right now! although I love my Dd Waterbox and Tt Soprano vb1000 I REALLY Love the Gt1000. I shall have one, Oneday! Oh yes I shall have one... Cool idea with the skate trucks ![]() Idea, If ya thinking of Bill's case handles ( good choice btw! ) I would maybe see if Bill has any of those wicked Rims like the ones he made for the PimpRig Tribute case?? I'm sure with a bit of modification they'ld fit a skate truck. And they would compliment the case handles nicely ![]() Oh yeh, those fans would look pretty awesome too | ||

| As much as I would be able to get one of those cases for myself an maybe even the wife right now (Uncle Sammy's Extra Pays for Combat Zones and the additional 1K per month over 12), I will have to sit tight and be green with envy... Now, while I admit that I wish I could have one of those sweet cases, I would raise a question about using skateboard trucks (notice I don't have an issue with the wheels) to support the case. It's been awhile since I jumped on a board, but don't the trucks have some flex to them? I would be worried that the side-to-side flexibility might become a problem. Specifically, when a person stands on a skateboard, they have their sense of balance and flexibility to compensate when the board leans one way or the other. Granted, a mid-tower case will not have as high a center of gravity as, say, a 5' 6" person, but I would think (and perhaps incorrectly, I dunno) that it would be much easier to tip the case over if you were to use the trucks. Something like the solid-axle wheels that the Lian Li V-series cases use comes to mind as a more stable platform. Perhaps modding one of those to accept the skate board wheels would address the stability issues and your sense of aesthetics? Dunno, it's your case, I'm just pointing out what I would see as a possible issue, before you start the carving and cutting in earnest... | ||

| You know what would look awesome on the front of that case would be some nice Billet Machined 5.25 bay covers from Bill at MNPCTECT.. and also some Vandal Switches for your power on and reset buttons.. | ||

| GPN Point taken. I know it can be done, one of the guys that used to write for VH did one many moons ago. Yep, it has some flex, much of which is controlled by how tight the bolt at the center of the truck is. I want some flex in order to turn corners by tilting the case. If it turns out it flexes too much, I'll replace the rubber, or part of it with something harder, like a stack of washers. I honestly thought about the Lian Li wheels, PerformancePC has them in stock now, but skateboard trucks are just way cooler. Stability is the reason I thought of the 10" axle long-board trucks, that's much wider than standard skateboard trucks. I've also considered counter sinking them into the case a bit. Ranger That's definitely something to consider. I likes me some Bulgin switches. | ||

| Anti: Ah, yes, it all seems to be coming back to me now about the trucks and torsion adjustments... But still, what corners would you be taking this thing around? What does that evil computing and watercooling/overclocking genius mind of yours have planned for the innards of this new beastie of yours? Would you be using the "fatboy" wheels, or something more along the lines of rollerblade-sized wheels? I can't really tell from the picture... If you're going with the skateboarding idea, maybe you could get killert to do the paintjob for ya... Just playing killert, don't get ruffled...
Ok, BeetleMan... Since Anti isn't diggin' the Marshall Mod idea, that's up in the air for you to take and run with... Get an old Marshall, rig up the dials and switch to the various controls, etc... Should have plenty of room for numerous 120 fans behind the amp grill, lots of inside wall space to mount the mobo and whatnots... Or maybe someone else would like to take that idea and run with it...

Wide skateboard trucks will work - if you find that it does turn too much though, you can easily buy harder bushings for the trucks (and in whatever colour you want too

| When I found the Marshall logo on ebay, I also ran across a acrylic bezel replacement for Marshall amps that "goes to eleven". A Marshall mod is a very cool idea. But still, what corners would you be taking this thing around? I'll be taking lessons from MasterP on carving up a half-pipe I'm going to build in my computer room. I just want a little room to roll around corners without lifting too much. It will house my current system Maximus Formula, E6850, Raptor Raid, etc., this won't be a long drawn out intricate mod. I've thought about calling it Project: Boltron Like Bolt 'er on. The lions share of the modding will be "old school" performance mods vs. aesthetic mods. I want something I can turn quickly and then work on easily. I just don't have the time for extensive non-functional mods and the case really doesn't need much. The wheels will be fat and short. Exactly, if you just dropped a system in as is, it's a nice case. But I can't leave anything un-modded. Well, I haven't got it yet. Judging by the tracking number it will be Thursday. But no, it doesn't come with bay controllers. The photo with the white fans is completely photoshopped. I already have both the Sunbeam and the Zalman so I chopped 'em in with the my idea to use guitar knobs. Just my way of trying things out before I start cutting and drilling. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
