| Apex Techie Wannabe | Hello everyone! I have finally been pushed far enough reading all the cool projects everyone has done here. I wanna do something but I know I need to start off simple so that's what I am aiming for. ![]() My plan is to take this and add some shiny-ness to it. I wanna add metalic silver to the front and add some lights to it perhaps. As for the sides...still trying to figure that one out. One thing for sure is that I would like to have speakers installed as well in this. Add a window to the side if possible and ingrave with something (not sure yet). I have some fun ideas I'd like...just need to work slowly on it and it'll look good. Besides...money is a lil tight so it's good anyways. | |

| Apex Techie Wannabe | Started off by taking this puppy apart and cleaning out what was inside with compressed air and a brush. Nice and clean...almost. Then, applied some paint onto the body and front. ![]() ![]() ![]() Gonna continue brushing off dust from other components. Ran out of black paint so gonna have to get more tomorrow as well as clear coat to seal up the good stuff. Currently in a pickle as I am trying to figure out what to work on next with this, but I'm sure something will come of it especially with the great support you all provide. Question: Where do most of you purchase materials for the windows? I have a dremel already so that's the least of my worries. That might be it for today on my part here...til next time...I think. ![]() | |

| Depending on where you live I would check the local hardware stores for plexiglass. If that is unavailable check around on the net. Ebay ususally has pretty good prices on the plexi, but the shipping is kind of overpriced. Good luck with your project. | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | As for the plexiglass...isn't there different types of plexiglass? If so, what would you all recommend I go for? Also, I know that I would need the molding as well for the plexiglass to sit in, so what site sells different variations of it? Lastly, using a dremel to cut it shouldn't be a problem, no? If so, what kind of tip should I purchase to make the edges not so sharp after cut? Thanks everyone for helping out with this. As for the update on this...most of the painting, if not all, is finished. I'm trying to look into bondo now so I can get the speakers mounted onto the sides of the case. But before I go do that, I have to make the window. | |

| ther's a bunch of types of plex......... if you'r doing a window i suggest 1/8 lexan. It's more durable then regular plexiglass. if you'r bending it, I suggest regular plex.....lexan's a #$*&^ to bend with heat without forming bubbles and blush. go to the glass shop and ask to look at everything. they shouldn't care if they're good. I used security glass in one of my mods (two way mirror) can't see with no lights behind it, can with lights on. can't bend it but way cool!! | ||

| I would try to avoid doing that moulding that you see at most mod shops. Its like 1" or more thick and just normally looks terrible. If you can't get your cuts (with filing) to look straight enough try some of this molding, it looks much cleaner and is less obvious. They also have it in black. When using this molding you will attach your window with some mounting tape so the plexi will be bigger than the window cut. Good luck with your project and make sure to post some pictures!! | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | As of now, this project is on hold due to recent news. I'm currently scheduled to go to Iraq next year so my fiance and I are pushing up the wedding plans to Nov 10 and also gonna work on clearing out bills as well as prepare for the worst. I've been in the military for almost eight years now, and had one year left before I got out (re-enlisted for three extra years...damn bonus). Most likely will try to pick up on this come end of December when things slow down a bit. | |
