| Just thought that I'd show you folks what I've been up to over the last week. I got myself a shuttle system (as a birthday gift to myself) in the hopes that I could use it as a digital video recorder for my video camera. I have a pretty pricy camera and I'm all for saving wear on the (expensive) heads and not requiring tapes either. As a side benefit, it would also double as a media PC/jukebox in the workshop while I record the next installments of Macgyver modding as well I wanted the unit to be portable though - the software that I will be running (Adobe Onlocation) can be used for anything from time-lapse to setting up proper film shoots - The PC will also be able to be taken into the lounge as a proper media centre if need be. The reason I went for an SFF PC was that I simply can't afford a laptop nor could I afford a proper Firestore disk recorder for my camera (it costs as much as a cheap notebook - just for an external hard disk!) - the shuttle is a quarter of the price given that I've got bits and pieces lying around to build it with. This is one of the weakest worklogs ever here folks - all in a couple of posts, but here's what I did: Grab the ugly shuttle case: Slap an MNPCTech Billet handle on it for portability: Then... make a custom door to cover the ugly face all up: The door itself was an old grey piece of plastic from a toaster that I had in the garage I cut a hole and went to bananas with mesh, Bondo, spray putty and the old gloss paint process The screen is an old 7" PSone screen that I had been itching to use - I hooked it up to a modified cigarette lighter adapter and ran cable to the TV out port on my graphics card. Because it all looked too simple and plain, I cut some MNPCTech brushed chrome vinyl film strips as pinstripes - givin' it some bling. And I'm done! The door is double hinged and isn't totally finished yet - it stays shut thanks to a couple of magnets. I still need to create a back plate to keep the inside of the door tidy as well as fabricate a new bezel plate (with a more tidy hole in it for the screen cables to pass through) ![]() | ||
