| Hi, As metioned a couple of weeks ago, here to be introduced is *drumroll* Valkyri Phase One The name is not significant, i.m.o. it just sounds nice. I have had to change the look VPO was meant to have, due to various factors- some of which were totally out of my control- you may notice, you might not... I'll let the pics speak for themselves unless obscurity prevails. The case I picked: Yeah, notice the nice blue glow? You need lights for that... Some dismantling and the like: ![]() I then performed a mod to the PSU: ![]() ![]() Before you wonder what the hell...LED's. ![]() The best is yet to come. ![]() ![]() OK, now for the last pics before the PSU failed dismally: ![]() ![]() I will post some pics later, which are more relevant to the direction VPO is moving in...if you don't have the patience, here is a complete log:Project : Valkyri Phase One | The obstacle is the path which you should probably not read. Start at chapter 9, if you don't want to see a repeat... Till later then. | ||

Yup. Matt Black. Further to the direction VPO is going in, here are some pics: I had to replace the PSU with something a bit more...shall we say unvoided ( for the moment at least.)Above pic serves as a comparison. Pic below shows new PSU installed. And then an MFC2 fan controller became part of the package: With a powersupply and power cable which I still need to make a place for: And now the fun and games start all over again. I've selected perspex as the medium of choice since I had to re-integrate the LED's from the now trashed ex-PSU. Yes, it is a mission to work with, but 4 hints: 1. Work slowly with it. This includes drilling holes, sawing with a Jigsaw, filing and Sanding/Polishing edges. 2. Have the piece of work clamped down properly, with as little of the edge unsupported as possible. This will prevent cracking or splitting. 3. Make a template first and then transfer the design onto your sheet. It is a hell of a lot cheaper stuffing up a piece of cardboard, than it is perspex. 4. Keep your work surface as clean as possible, because any spec of dirt may cause unwanted scratches. Anyway, enough preaching. Here are some pics: ![]() ![]() and some "lights-out" shots: ![]() ![]() ![]() That's it for now. Progress is being hampered by a whole lot of other things at the moment.

Thanks bigskwiggles. Yes, I learnt the hard way, that once an LED "leg" has been bent at 90 Degrees, it does not happily accept being bent straight again...it breaks .Anyway, thanks again for the comment and good luck with messing around , shout if you need some pointers ![]()

| See what happens when one does not mod for a while? Ideas start changing and develop into mission impossibles. I'm halfway through, but to tease, here is the design I'm gunning for: Ok just imagine the Gold as amber will ya? GD is not my strongpoint. | ||

| I removed the HDD enclosure footplate and all other accesories, because I found some totally unacceptable paint behaviour: ![]() So VPO is going in for a paint job. Again. Over the weekend, I played around with some pipe configurations and this is a very close resemblance of what the end result is going to be. I will endevour to get the bezel as close as possible to the sketch I put together earlier, and the pipes will be set back a bit further to elliminate the current flat appearance. ![]() Till later then. | ||

| I'm not going to bore you with English. I was not happy with the first try, so I attempted a second: ![]() Still not happy, I tried a third time with much better results. Here is how I got there: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Obviously, more attention need be given to the edges, and I might as well then use the opportunity to keep a little something "special" for the next time I post. Cheers, Peter. | ||

| I have some free time, so thought I'd post an update ![]() Once again some hassles with using the wrong equipment for the job...I started with a jigsaw, and surprise surprise, had to break two workpieces before realising that a rotary tool would be more effective ![]() Now with the rotary tool: All protective layers removed after I had polished the edges a bit: And a completed unit: Shortly, when I have finalised the lower part, I will submit a pic of the 2 units combined on the bezel. Later. B ![]() | ||

| @ Slaymate: Patience, my friend, is also an attribute which I am trying to master . Thanks for the interest!@ Bill: Thanks for the compliment. I totally forgot that I posted there ! I will update a bit later since a lot has changed, obviously... | ||

| Long time no update ![]() Here are a couple of shots which show both top and bottom in full view and some detail: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I witnessed how DJV attached a remote switch to an optical drive and this is my attempt. I was a bit negative to tackle such a daunting task... ![]() But once I got stuck into it, it was a piece of pie to get things sorted: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This unit is now ready to be hooked up to a remote switch, once the time arrives. I am playing around with some aluminium pieces which will act as HDD support rails, but this is a messy affair. I might as well do some ODD panel stealthing while I'm at it. I think the metal polish fumes are affecting me a bit ![]() .More to come a bit later ...Cheers, Peter. | ||

| The orange and the piping works nice together. Please don't get me wrong now when I say that it looks like you hardly had to make an effort to make the case look that good so far. ![]() The PSU mod is stunning (what a way to install LEDs!) and a remote switch for the optical drive sounds interesting. Keep up the good work. | ||

| Thank you, guys. Much appreciated. @ DraQla: You know...when I was introduced to modding, I too was under the impression that it takes no effort, as you elloquently put it. I suppose that once one has experience under the belt (like Bill for instance), then things happen almost automatically, because material and tool handling becomes second nature. I agree with you, though...not much has been done so far and sometimes I feel that I should be further along than I actually am .Oh, well...I'm enjoying the journey! Here is a shot of the remote switches. 2 of them have already been dedicated to some task, but the 3rd ...there as a spare until it gets appointed, I guess. ![]() When I removed the HDD enclosure a while back, 2 things came to mind. Firstly, I realy screwed it up by cutting holes in it, because the structure became very flimsy and not a nice thing to look at. Secondly, I felt that the space behind the amber fan panel was too empty and could be utilised more effectively. I set about making rails which will support 2 HDD's behind this panel. Aluminium was chosen for its strength, light weight and apparent ease to work with. I'm just going to do some editing (because an exhorbitant amount of pictures were taken ) and it will be revealed.Cheers, Peter. | ||
