| From what I could track down I'm thinking they where designed to be in a ported box to start with. Clarion doesn't list specs for that sub in a sealed box. You can check out their data sheet HERE I don't know that they would have any higher sound quality but they will be louder and should do a better job of staying loud with all the door and windows open. Hope that helps somewhat. | ||

| You would have to build a new enclosure since ported boxes need more cubic feet of interior space to get the proper sound without damaging (or potentially damaging) your woofers. Even if you could just use the same enclosure, just drilling a hole wouldn't "cut it". | Adding porting to your box could be tricky depending on how big it is and what the shape is. You may be better off asking somebody that builds them for a living the hard questions. The best way would be to print out that spec sheet and have it handy when asking questions, alot of those numbers deal with the size, shape and other features that your sub needs a box to have. I have done plenty of sealed box's but never a ported one so I don't have the best knowledge of what the specifics are for your setup. You would need to know the exact dimensions of the inside of your current box and then there are plenty of calculations and stuff to figure out to know if it would work for you. The port itself is more than just a round hole. It needs to be a 4inch hole but it needs to have a 13 inch length. There is usually a piece of acoustic tubing inside the box to give the port it's length. You can google "sub box building" and get hundreds of good hits that can explain some of this better than I can. Hopefully some of this will help you out, experimenting with car stereo equipement used to fill my days when I had the money and time to play with the stuff. | ||

| seen as this thread is about car audio questions i may as well as mine. I won a Coustic 800Q 4-Channel Amplifier and i don't know wether to keep it or sell it. It is worth about AU$500 and at the moment i dont have a car so would i be better off with the money or hanging onto it for my own system eventually? | ||

Depends how long you're going to be without a car, what the new cost is, and what interest rate you can find. If the amp would cost AU$750 new, it would take eleven years before your AU$500 invested at 4% compounded annually increased to more than the new price.... by which time the new price would have increased anyway ... I guess you need to figure in inflation as well ![]() I'd keep it ![]() | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
