| Oookay... I really want a Subaru STI... I have NO idea why. They're kind of homely, they're from-the-factory ricer, and the one I've had my eye on is bright blue with the "STI" logo all over it... I still owe on my car for christ's sake... I haven't owned it but two years... I love the looks of my car... I mean, it's cool inside and out and I just started modding it... I have to do the 60K tune (due 4K miles ago), and I need to replace the sparkplugs/wires, but the 800 bucks would be cheaper than adding about another 10 grand worth of debt to my world (the STI is used, but only has 21,000 miles on it) why the hell am I thinking of trading my cool, gettin'-rare car in on a ride that looks so strange? I lie awake thinkin' I'd really like to drive one... Not bad for get-up-and-go and the AWD would be sweet... I mean, it's supposed to put out pretty impressive power... but it's still a 4-banger, which I've never been a big fan of... and it looks like it'd be like another pain-in-the-ass to maintain! I keep askin' myself why I want one... anybody have any ideas?!? | ||

| Get a WRX Impreza, its a step down but its $8000 cheaper and only 60hp less. Its lighter and handels just a nice. I have a Impreza drives like a dream through anything. They are a super comfortable, fast and extremely versitle car. I take it for biking, skiing, pretty much anything, the visiblity out the windows in excellent, shifting superb, and handleing is amazing. EDIT: AWD is nice cause you never burn rubber-just go... Unlimited slip differential is nice too cause all the power goes to the wheels with traction. Boxer engine is blanced and provides less vibrations PLUS!!! Lance drives the car!! AND it flippin wins the World Off-Road Ralley Championship (mind you its not the same specs but it looks damn cool) | ||

| Personally, I dont like the looks of them. If I was looking for a from-the-factory-ricer I would get an Evo, but thats just me. Of course, if I was going to spend 30 thousand on a new car, I'd rather just save and get myself an M3, but of course, this is all pocket change here. Keep your car. Grass is always greener on the other side. | ||

![]() Personally I perfer the look of the Lancer Evo. Something like that in white would be my pick in that price range. I would say not to go for it unless you really are sure the extra payments won't affect you tommarow, and forward into next year. And that 4 banger is factory turbo charged, I believe it puts near 300 ponies to the grown using those 4 tires and AWD...nice! Wish my Honda did that ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by SpikeShot; 23-May-05 at 11:15 PM..

And said grass is more expensive. I'm 19 and understand that these things are toys, therefore a second car. A reliable/reasonable primary car and stable income is a prerequisite.

| I think the EVO VIII is ugly as sin. If you went the Subaru route I'd also get the WRX since that's all you need and they great all-purpose cars. You'd be saving yourself a lot of money and unless you're doing crazy mountain driving or taking the car to a road course you don't need the bread basket rear wing. However, a lot of things on the STi are much more beefed up to taking abuse over the WRX. Bone stock, the WRX trans is already weak so beating on it a lot will see it's demise come up quick. If you start modifying it you'll run into the nasty problem with the crappy stock fuel rail leaning out cylinder #3 and your engine eating sh!t if beaten on a lot. The STi is actually probably more reliable if you want something practical that you can beat on. If you did get the STi, find a kid with a WR Blue WRX and swap trunks with him, I'm sure a lot of kids would love to have your STi wing when the stock WRX wing looks great IMHO. Oh and Dreyco, it's only a limited slip. There is no such thing as an "unlimited" slip differential. If there was it would probably be another name for an open diff, and open diffs just suck. The WRX has viscous limited slip rear and open front diffs, while the STi has clutch type rear (not 100% sure on that) and helical front limited slip diffs. | ||

| Meh... someone else bought the car... Guess I shoulda jumped sooner... Regardless, I figured my bills... couldn't have afforded it anyway... but it was a nice thought... The salesguy told me the wing isn't really useful until you're up over 130... Ironically... the car is governed at 145... | ||

Did you know losing your wing altogether is good for shaving 30lbs or more off the rear of your car? If I got a Subaru, I'd either get a black or white '02 WRX or import one of these bad boys, the new '05 Subaru Legacy S401, only limited production in Japan.

| losing your wing will indeed shave weight off, but the wings on these rally rep cars are properly functioning aerodynamic devices, and when you reach speeds over 50mph they have a huge effect on roadholding, as they push the car into the ground. i live in the UK where the whole scooby/evo thing has been going for ages, and both have high profiles in the press. ive not driven either on the road, but as i understand it the evo is much more hardcore than the impreza, so unless youve got another car to use every day, the impreza is the one to go for. you americans get a 2.4l version of the impreza engine, and a smaller turbo, whereas the evo is one spec world-wide. The other issue with these cars is that they are at such a high level of tune when they leave the factory that service intervals are almost as bad as my motorbike - 4000miles between minor services, 15000ish between majors. compared to 100,000 miles between majors on Corvettes/Chargers/Vipers and the service costs soon add up. but then i guess thats the price to pay for generating 300+bhp from 2 litres as opposed to the big capacity, lazy, medium tune motors in those | ||

Dark it's good that you passed it up. My dad works for bankcorp south in the morgage branch. I hear it all the time. people paying off there cars for 6 or 8 years . You don't want that much debt. It reflects bad on your credit and when or if you do need a morgage that matters.

Damn, and here I'm writing checks for four times the amount they ask for. ![]()

True about the wing, but the EVO is no more hardcore than the STi, both have their hardcore versions (the STi Spec C and the EVO RS). And some more insight about the USDM versions of the two: The VF39 turbo on the USDM EJ25 is ever so slightly smaller than the VF34 EJ20 turbo. On either one I would upgrade to a twinscroll like the VF37 (or the VF36 which I've heard has a titanium center shaft hehe) And the USDM EVO has less power due to crappier fuel in the US, so the ECU is tuned down compared to it's EDM and JDM companions, and the US also doesn't get AYC because we're bloody Americans and we get a bigger gas tank instead which leaves no room for AYC ![]()

I'll agree... still, they're fast with AWD in an area where that's really useful. My car is a work of damn art... It's getting gravel damage from the roads, I'm driving it more and more to get anywhere... I'd rather own a car that I can abuse and not have to worry 'bout it... oh well... I'm lookin' at a Ford Bronco II. Should be just just the beast I need out here. 1,000 bucks is better than 20,000. Guess I also should have just given up on performance on this one... fast car+snow=spinning and sliding ![]()

meh bad luck. the rally teams that build and run the evo and subaru world rally cars are both based in the UK, and as a consequence we get offered all sorts of special models; currently you can by a monster called an Evo FQ-400, which has had a total engine rebuild and a new turbo (its about the size of a childs head!) to bring it up to 400bhp - which from 2 litres is some going! we also get Prodrive (a major motorsports company that make the aston martin dbr9 race cars as well as the subaru rally cars) special performance edition Imprezas, but they're no where near as mental as the Evos. guess you lot got the short straw in the imported rally rep draw........
