Well...

I won a race about two days ago, and I just have to mention it.

I was driving my Girlfriend's Subaru. It's a little 4-banger, but it does have a little "umph" to it...

This redneck in this suped-up pick-up is riding next to me... I'm thinking, "Meh, cool truck... I guess."
Then the passenger of said truck leans out and wolf-whistles at me and starts being a general d*ck in my direction.

I guess he thought I was cute or something... I'll admit, I don't look bad decked out in my suit and tie for work, but I didn't think I was THAT attractive.

I thought of a dozen different things to yell back, but I decided to can a reply and just step on it...

I thoroughly expected to get smoked. I mean, that truck was pulling hard when the guy let off the brake at the light... It looked like it was ready to pounce and kick some ass...

I'm in a 4 door, 10-year old, slightly dented, factory spec, Subaru Legacy...

I sh*t you not... I won!

Guy stomps on the accelerator just as I do, and damn nears slams into the curb when the truck pulls to the left really hard. Not sure what the hell he thought he was doing, but if I were him, I'd probably drop a coupla bucks into beefing up that suspension!

I love it when these guys in ricers decide to get aggressive around me when I'm in the truck. I was bringing my son home from guitar lessons a couple weeks ago when some kids in a lowered Civic with a coffee can muffler decided that doing the speed limit wasn't quick enough. I had been watching the guy as I drove across town and he had been weaving in and out of traffic but kept getting stuck behind somebody and was obviously getting frustrated. We hit a patch of open read when he was behind me and I heard him grab a gear and jump into the left lane and step on the gas, so I automatically reached up and slapped it in second and punched it. I damn near broke traction at 40MPH and he pulled up to my door. It was about that time that the motor and tranny figured out what I was doing and I went from 40 to 80 in a couple of seconds. I looked up in the mirror and the Civic had pulled back into the lane behind me. He didn't try to pass me again. I looked at my son and said "I just wanted to give you an example of what not to do when you are driving." He got a big kick out of that.

And then after that you had to pull over to the local gas station to refill as the ricer continued for many more miles.

About what milage to you get when you punch that gas man? I know in our old Tahoe if you "punched" anything on that car you lost a gallon of gas. It was quit enjoyable literally watching the gas gage lower in real time.

I average 13 to 14 MPG. But you know what? I'm retired from the military so I have that paycheck, and make good money in the I.T. field now, so I can afford it. Matter of fact, I could punch it all the way to work and back wiping out all the ricers and it won't make a difference to me. Matter of fact I will be beefing the motor up some more soon to suck even more gas. Ooooh Yeaaah!

Me vs. one of the guys in our Probe club.

He missed 2nd, you can't see him he's next to me the whole time. I shut down at 80 (prime time for the pigs in that area) but had we kept going he would have caught up to me. My car is a 1st gen Probe 3.0 V6 and he has a 2nd gen 2.5 V6.

Dude, these guys were driving American Muscle... It was an old school chevy truck with a lowered front end, painted a bright, classic, cherry red...

I have to admit, I'm usually in with the "no replacement for displacement" crowd, but all in all, an idiot is still an idiot... Meh, I guess I could still dub him a ricer... just for having all those gobs of power, and no freakin' control!

I am with you on that one BA! I have an Avalanche and I wont step down to no little ricer......hello....4 banger...ha ha. You might have a nice off the line start but in the long run you are going to get smoked hardcore! Unless it is some 125,000 dollar ricer then I might be intemidated. But like 90% of them are all wanna-be's!!

What Dark went up against are just some good old white trash idiots, it would have been funny if they wrecked their truck.

Honestly, off the line is a strong point for me as long as I can make the wheels stick. I keep 240lbs of sand over the rear wheels now to help out. Damn, I don't think I'll ever grow up. Cool.

Yea I was about to say that your main advantage is sheer torque in the lower rpm's...and of course the 4 bangers need the RPM's to keep up as the lesser the engine...blah blah...

The point is, I bet if you and I raced (I got a "ricer" Accord) you (BA) would smoke me off the line and then at about 80 mph I would slowly gain till your govenor kicked in...My friends Dodge does at 100 so that seems right for most pickups that I have been driven in. Then I would pass you becuase mine woot stop till 120... But it would take me a long time to catch up...

You just wait until I get my 1st gen Probe GT 5-speed. I'll do to you what I do to gas-scooters and mini-bikes on my Sting-Ray

Dude... Most Fieros were noted as being fairly gutless... The mid-engine during their early period made them a bitch to mod...

On the whole, I was never that impressed... I have seen a couple of conversions to V8, which was supposed to kick ass, but I've smoked Fieros... in my old '83 Mercury... AND my '70 Impala with about 250K on the motor...

Thats not very true. Yes they are a bitch fo work on. The whole assebly can be dropped down with a few nuts and bolts. The engine can easily be swapped with a v8 ranging up to 600 HP with a 5 speed. The swap only adds about 150 pounds to an already light car. I was thinkin of doing the swap but its not really worth it seeing as I rarely race mine. Fieros aren't the fastest thing on the block but they sure are fun to drive and are pretty quick.

Well... I smoked a BMW and a Toyota Celica today... loads of fun... Lost the Celica at 120, the BMW at 125.

In their defense, they did TRY to keep up... most Beamers I know of have a lot of horses under the hood, so I'm not sure if the guy just wussed out or what, he was riding my butt pretty close, but never managed to make it around me (might have just been utilizing me as bear bait, but I managed to leave him behind a few times).

I love long-distance racing
