| Okay, so I'm lookin' at various ways to squeeze power outta my ride. I'm thinking, "Hmm... what's up with the performance chips" I like the idea of a chip that plugs into the onboard computer and kicks it's ass... However, I've learned by research that a lot of these damn things only fool the computer into thinking you have it floored all the time! I'm gettin' sick of fake performance parts... Those damn E-RAMs, performance chips, and a lot of other crap seem to offering such HUGE increases in HP... then you talk to someone who's bought one and they tell ya it sucks ass... | ||

| You could replace the ECU with a factory Preformance unit and then stack on a controler, this would get rid of your rev limiter and top speed cap if it has one. Also it really depends if you are running Fuel Injection or carbs and at that What are your plans for you engine, turbos,supercharger,NO2,Over-bore and rebuild, cams, list goes on. NO2 is a great power adder when used correctly, Turbos,SuperChargers are your big gains, and Cams and ECU are great power adders. To say more Cold air intake, filters, gas choice, sparks, and wires, and exhaugst are also good power gains. | ||

DooOOOOOOOOOOd you have licensed Scooby Doo gear?...Man.....[envy]kicks rocks[/envy]
Plenty of american iron handles...have you ever checked the difference in rates? At your age it's all gonna be expensive... Last edited by ZENNZZO; 02-May-05 at 10:17 AM..

| Yeah, Scooby makes it run faster, but Zenn made an excellent point: There is no replacement for displacement. Short of trading your car in for a bigger one, there's really only so much you can do without some very expensive replacing of parts. On a budget, I'd focus on the stuff that will have the most impact, such as a tuneup, quality filters, tire pressure and style...and a good stereo. ![]() | ||

| LMAO.........My biggest insurance rate drop happened when I turned 35............Flashing the chips does work Here's one that get's good marks for performance on Fords http://www.sctflash.com/xcalibrator.php As far as your application, check around and see what everyone else is using. Most of the good ones, when adjusted right, will give you 25-100hp increase (depending on the vehicle and the engine mods that you already have present. ![]() | ||

| I think the bottom line here is that if the product supposedly raises your horsepower, gets you 30 miles to the gallon, cleans your windows, AND protects your Scooby Do litterbag but only costs your $35.00.....it PROBABLY isn't REALLY gonna' work. I have a Ford Ranger. Love the truck. Excellent mileage, and I've added dual exhaust, premium audio, etc etc. However, I STILL have a FORD RANGER. No matter how many flame decals and blinking lights I put on it, it's still a 4.0L V-6. No matter how many throttle body spacers or "tornados" I put on, I'm still gonna get about 25 MPG on the highway. UNLESS I just buy a performance block and build a perfmormance engine. My favorite thing here in Missouri (and I'm FROM this state) is all the folks with full-size trucks, 10 inch lift kits, and factory rims & tires. Now that's great. The door of the truck is about 35 inches off the ground. Unfortunately, their axles are still about 15-17 inches off the ground. Zero clearance gain. So, they figure that out and put ungodly sized rims and tires on it. Ok....now you're getting about 5 miles per gallon because the ENGINE ISN'T DESIGNED FOR THAT S**T. Scroll up, and start reading again.... Ok, I'm done now...buh bye. | ||

Good one!...
Not to mention those big tires and wheels have ungodly leverage against the suspension and steering, that now need beefed up...
