Default durability

im looking to buy a used ride but obviously when bought used.. you need to get new parts (everything will die eventually)

whats the most durable car thats worth going for?

its a long shot away but i need to start doing my research.

Honda and Toyato have a well deserved rep for lasting forever, but the repairs when they need em are expensive.

American cars can be alot cheaper to repair, but are more trouble prone in general, GM in general has the best track record IMO.
Check out Consumer Reports for the ratings, some brands do very well overall like Buick, but certain models like a Chevy Camaro rate pretty low, so it pays to look at the exact year and model you are looking at.

Grab a chevy cavalier, a ford escort (or focus depending on how much money you got) - stay away from the dodge neons.........either one of those two rides will get you cheap and readily available parts.

This is just my opinoin but I am always right - just ask me.

most 80's toyotas last a very long time, and really aren't that expensive to fix.. the 22RE in my celica was also used in the trucks for almost 20 years, so finding parts for it is easy.... Although you'll want to stay away from the 7M powered supras, they like to blow head gaskets..

I'd consider the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic to be the most reliable small cars. They're also very common, so it's a piece of cake to find parts and mechanics who can work on them. The Ford Escort (and Mercury Tracer) is not far behind 'em in reliability, and may be a bit cheaper to fix. Other cars like the Acura Integra or Infiniti G20 are also very reliable, but probably cost more to fix.

If you're looking for a mid-size, I'd bet the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord would be some of the cheapest to maintain in the long run.

There are such things as reliable sports cars, like the Celica or Miata -- but there are a dozen Camrys on the road for each Celica, so parts are probably cheaper for a Camry.

EDIT: Just out of curiousity, I went on the NAPA website and compared random part prices (same brand/style, just for different cars):

RadiatorMufflerFront Brake PadPower Steering Pump Headlight AssemblyBall Joint (lower front)
Escort$142-17710917-646418947
Civic$142-14911415-5924518927

(Kinda makes you wonder what's so darn special about the Civic's PS pump, since everything else is so similarly priced)

Meh, I have a 92 cavalier and she blows arse in the snow. Other than that it hasn't been too bad. Needs a new exhaust, but computer parts always come first!
