Default My new ride!

My 1988 got it for 500$ + 100$ for title transfer. 160,00miles. runs and drives. needs a few things like exhaust and power-steering pump are the most important atm. Tires are just about new. 2.8l V6 so insurance will be cheap. I turn 16 Tuesday.

good luck

I've been in way too many of those that were rusted out and ran fire out the exhaust to say anything else.

There's just about no rust, some is just starting in the floor in the rear. Which shouldnt be hard to fix.

Happy early BDay! If you got a car that runs for $600, you got a good deal. Have fun, drive safe!

When you take picts with the sun in front of you, use your spare hand to block the direct sunlight from the lens of your camera. Will give you better picts. Just a little tip from FG.

Thanks for the tip, I'll use my good camera tomorrow for better pictures, those were cell phone ones. Also I forgot to mention my dads a mechanic so I get to learn to do all the work myself.

After my birthday, Im pretty sure I should have enough money for a new DynoMax Cat-back exhaust and the Power-steering pump.

I also order new key locks for the doors since the driver side on was broke and a new interior driver side door handle because that was broken also. The A/C and Heat work pretty well. I'm looking for a center console now, The radio works but the mounts and pretty beat and the arm rest compartment hinges are broken also.

Other things like hood and truck gas struts, headlight motor stops, new exterior door handles (they are pretty beat, but work for now) upper driver side seatbelt part thingy, Dash pad, Upper door hinge on the driverside, Oil change, Windshield wipers, probably spark plugs and injectors.. it runs a little wierd but my dad said it might be because of the exhaust.

PAINT! I'm thinking dark blue with the silver bird on the hood.

Thats pretty much all I can think of right now.

Fix that 'upper driver side seatbelt part thingy' first bro! You want that to work! I hope you never need it, but...

It's great your Dad is a mechanic! Dude, you can get that sucker fixed up pretty cheap and learn a lot as well.

I got a sweatheart deal going on at a local repair shop I used to work at. I fix the computers, they fix my ride. Works out great for me, I drive a '93 Nissan truck! Got new tires coming in this week for the hooptie!

Look into that seatbelt thingy! Really, get that fixed first.

I got alot of stuff done on the car, I'll update later..

But for now, I got my drivers permit! and next week I'm taking my motorcycle permit test

I took out the powersteering pump myself, it wasn't to bad.. me and my dad are putting the new one in a little bit. I also got some nice seats out of a Cavalier from the junk yard for 53$ for the seats (2). They look nice and are comfortable too (:

I put the new spark plugs in it too.

My dads said he'll buy my exhaust and show me how to install it and after that, Im going to put in some new speakers, nothing special just Sony Xplods in the stock locations. I also got a new used center console out of a 86 Camaro off ebay and my dad order headlight rebuild kits for me.

Sweet It won't be long until your a fine Firebird Mechanic. HeHeHe.

I just paid $303 for the fuel pump in my Camaro and I installed it myself. You'll find out soon enough that everything is harder to fix in a Firebird/Camaro. Everything is crowded. Just wait til you have to start working on the motor that was conveniently located under the dash.

I'm sure your Dad will know almost everything but I'm pretty handy with these models if you have any questions

It's crazy to think a 16 year old would be allowed to drive a car like that. I don't mean to direct offense at you though killert its just that in you UK you would never get insured on a car like that (you have to be 17 to drive anyway). My sister got a Renualt Clio when she passed her test and the insurance is about £800 a year and its only a 1.2 (shes 18). I hope you have fun in it though, and happy 16th even though its a week late!

LOL, you make it sound like it's gonna be too much for him to handle... all 2.8 liters...and 20 years old at that (not to put down your ride, killer).

My first car was a 1979 Camaro Z28. Man do I miss that car.....

But now I drive a 2003 Cobra and a 1990 5.0 Mustang. Dont know if I could ever go back to that old Camaro...

now get a TPI 350 and drop in that thing...that 2.8 is a terrible motor for both performance and reliability....

Nice car to start with tho....

Well yeah...

But then those are 2.8 American litres so probably only producing about 12 bhp ;-)

As has been said cars are crazy expensive over here in the UK for insurance, fuel, tax etc etc. But then thats because so many people manage to wrap their VW Polos round lamp posts within a month of passing their tests.

Not a chance as a new driver i would trust myself behind the wheel of a RWD, 2.8l V6 (even if my 12bhp statement isnt far off...). But then... i suppose over here across the pond we have something else to worry about / enjoy... Corners! lol

It's those deadly roundabouts!!!

Killert, not a big fan of Firebirds, but thats a sick deal. I'm pretty sure you can get historical plates for it as its more than 20 years old. Historical plates = Less insurance.

Actually since the car has a V6, the insurance only went up 1200$ a year, Which might seem alot but its all cheaper then a 5.0 or 5.7 V8, and I only have to pay half. I split it with my parents.

Whats really going to make the insurance go higher is my motorcycle. haha

The 2.8 having 160k miles, probably didn't get there on purpose, if you know what I mean its seemed to be taken care of pretty well and if i continue to take car of it I don't see why it won't last probably another couple grand.

Thanks, I'll look in to those historical plates when I get tags for it.

Heres some pictures of my new/used seats. I think they look really good. The passenger seat was wet at the time of the picture from cleaning.

Congrats on the new ride. For $500 bucks and it being a first car I think you made a good score.

Now whats with that. I'm jealous of those freebees. Good to hear your making progress, just keep this thing a little while (longer than the bike). You gotta feel the pride of crusing in town with a car you brought back from the dead.
