| Before the forums got merged together I posted I bought a new (used) car (can't find the thread). I think I made a bit of a mistake in taking on this project... it is taking more resources than I originally thought. Here is my worklog so far. My Memory card for the camera I used (at work) got wiped out by my coworker (dangit!). Here is what I've managed to get done so far: Girlfriend removed all the vinyl (I had some half-assed zebra-looking thing going on for some reason) Repaired the hatchback Removed the front and rear bumpers Removed the chromed tail-pipe (I thought it had ye olde' cannon on it, but it was just an exhaust tip) I have begun to remove the thin layer of freakin' krylon the brainiac used to paint specific parts of the interior. Using dremel to remove green brake paint (and overspray) from the calipers and muffler (I'm not sure how he managed to get it all the way back there). Removed "Six Gun" gear shift knob (It looks like the cylinder for a .38 or something... uncomfortable as hell to rest your hand on) Replaced hood latch (MAJOR problem, described below) Replaced rear bumper (managed to get the part from the former owner, so it matches the car). Front bumper ready to replace, but ran into a snag. Our friend decided at some point (probably trying to fit his body-kit) to remove the entire window-washer rez unit. Given the damage (described below), I'm probably going to have to wait. Now then: I found out our ricer friend had been in an accident. I figured he bought the hood due to a fixation with black... no... he replaced it due to damage. I couldn't see it because he warped a lot of it back out and the massive damn kit covered the rest. I also know why he insisted on test driving the vehicle and kept it under 60. I just figured he was a poor driver, but it turns out the hood doesn't latch down properly. I found this one out at 80... lucky I was able to keep the damn hood on there! I found out support strut for the hood latch and pretty much the entire structure in front of the engine is warped and attempts to bend it back have let me know the metal is so weak if I keep going, it'll snap off like a soda can top. Sooooo... I'm going to have to take it to a freakin' body shop to get it replaced. Welding goes beyond my skill... FUTURE PLANS: After I get the bloody front end fixed, I'll be looking into: New stereo (MP3 capable) and speakers (with the length of my commute, a good stereo is kind of a must) There is a nifty space for a turbo-charger... it's sitting there empty... begging me to fill it. Removal of SILVER KRYLON from the engine bay Replacement of front fenders (they have chips in them where the hood slammed shut). One of the wheels is warped, so I'll be looking into replacing all four (they look a bit ghetto as they've seen a bit of abuse) Anyway... will update as I get further along! | ||

| I just got one of these and I like it a lot. Will play mp3's right off a generic flash drive. Has a nice sound and the remote is easy to use. Kenwood Excelon KDC-X492 CD receiver at Crutchfield.com Just thought I would share that with you. Best of luck on your car. ![]() | ||

I've got a Pioneer 6700 in my '99 Civic. I found a store around here that still carries them. They're a little plain looking, but it's been a really solid little unit. I figured I'd just get another one of those. I honestly miss the 7800 I had in my GT... mostly due to the really lame little rain graphic it ran... I really miss that thing. ADD: I guess I wouldn't mind a "Line-in" for my MP3 player. Flash drives are cool (8 gigs of music would be pretty sweet), maybe I should try to upgrade a little, but I'm really familiar with the 6700. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I have a Pioneer DEH-5000 in my Probe and I love it. Good work on that de-ricing, with all that crap removed you might be able to sell it and make some money. I remember when I first got my car I had to do some de-ricing. It had a GT-R badge on the back, Nissan Altima wheels that didn't fit right, body was 4 different colors, interior was a mess, stock exhaust with a fart pipe, I actually have before and after pictures of it and the cars look nothing alike. Day when I bought it: ![]() ![]() ![]() What it looks like now: ![]() ![]() ![]() Hotshot headers / Greddy SP2 = Sex ![]() ![]() Yeah I think I've done pretty good on the de-rice but it has a ways to go before I'm done with it. | ||
