Default Oil Pressure Sending Unit...

Ok I have a 1997 Isuzu Rodeo. My oil pressure gauge stopped working a while back, and my mechanic told me that the sending unit is bad. (He checked and the oil pressure is fine) The sending unit is a dealer only part so he told me to pick one up and he'll replace it for me.

Now I don't really like using him since he's very $$$$$ but I use him for some stuff since he's right next door to my work and I can leave my truck with him and take a work truck home. Anyway, its been several months now and I need to replace the sending unit because I'm going to be getting rid of my truck.

I'm very mechanically inclined, just don't know much about cars. Can anyone give me a hand with how to replace this thing. (where it goes would be a start... lol :/ )

I wanna get it done with in the next few days.. then I'm gonna pick up a 2002 BMW 325i, its not the greatest BMW but it only has 13k miles and looks brand new and is fully loaded. And I can get it really cheap. Like $13000 cheap.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out.

I'm not sure where the sending unit is located on the Isuzu, but it is a common problem on V6 Probe GT's, especially 93 - 94's. It's a VERY easy fix on our cars, not worth buying a different car over.

If it is set up anything like ours is, it's an electronic setup, get you a manual gauge with a tap for oil if you're really that concerned about it.

You may just want to go down to your local auto parts shop. You didn't mention what engine your rodeo has in it but Autozones online parts finder shows they carry 4 different models for the v-6 truck depending if you have an indicator light or a gauge. The 4 cylinder engine they only show one style switch but say they do carry them. Once you find the part at the store it won't be hard to find the part on the engine and change it.

I'm not getting rid of the truck due to the oil pressure gauge not working... its just time for something different and I want to fix this small issue before I trade it or sell it.

And VF1000Ride I allready have the unit so that end of things is taken care of, I just need to figure out how/where I replace it. O and also I have the V6.

Thanks guys for the input.

The parts store should have a schematic to show you where it's located when you buy the part. If they have it on computer they might even print it out for you.

I've never been under the hood on an Isuzu. This was in a thread I found for a '92 v-6 rodeo. If your motor is close to the same this should help.

Just a thought, but....

If you think the mechanic next door charges too much, and you're having difficulty with doing repairs yourself....do you think a BMW mechanic will be any cheaper?

I don't mean I'm not willing to spend money to have proper work done, its just that this guy runs a little tiny business out of literally a 1 car garage, and he charges almost $50 for an oil change. And don't get me wrong, he's very good at what he does, just to much $ for me. I'm fully aware that the upkeep of a BMW is far from cheap, but I'm just trying to save myself a little cash by doing something I'm capable of.

Fair enough. Just didn't want to see you getting into a Beemer thinking it's going to be cheap. Good luck with the Isuzu repair.

Well thanks to VF1000ride I easily found the old unit. Now the problem is, months ago when I went to the auto parts store and had them order me the replacement sending unit, it turns out they got me the oil pressure switch and not the sending unit. So I decided to just say the heck with it. I think this coming week I'm just gonna go ahead and trade the truck in as is. Like I said before I'm pumped to get my 325i. The thing had to be owned by some little old lady or something, its just in perfect shape.

Perhaps not cheap, but the parts for my friend's M3 are cheaper than anything on my Supra.

Bouve124 - Why not get a replacement sender from a local salvage yard? The ones around here wouldn't charge more than $5 and those cars are plenty common (especially since you can also use 99% of the parts off a Honda Passport). You just have to pull it from the donor yourself, so bring tools.

Well I don't have to worry about it anymore. I traded my truck in this past week. I didn't get the BMW though. I decided to pass on it. I ended up getting an '07 VW Jetta Wolfsburg edition. Its a really nice car and I'm very happy with it.

If you wanted a VW you should have said something... I've got a '71 VW Super Beetle going up for sale shortly... and repairs are CHEAP!

Good luck with the new car, VW's new offerings look damn nice and are supposed to hold up well.

Now, post some damned pics!!!!
