| Sempr0n? | American muscle ftw. My personal favourite is the 1969 Dodge Charger...and you can't beat the roar of a big block V8. 'Cudas are sweet as well. If I ever learn to drive (...) I'm getting something big, noisy and american. | |

| Ok guys Im a honda guy. Not your typical Ricer with the neons, body kit and more tV's than ciruit city. I hate those guys I think they ruina perfectly good and capable car buy putting 400 pounds of stereo in it so afterwords your 0 - 60 time is 3 minutes. Im into the clean stock JDM Rides. You know the ones that Are functional track cars but are sleepers. Just think about this there is more horsepower per Liter in a honda than alot of cars. But All Im saying is Im a muscle car guy as well. You have got to love the sound of a big block V8. And my all time favorite Muscle Car Happens to be a Mopar 69 Dodge Charger R/T. | ||

Same here. Stuff a truck motor of any manufacture into a sedan and the tires spin. This is a big mystery? Admittedly, I'm no musclecar fan of any make. These days I am less concerned with how quickly I can get to a point 1/4 mile away than whether I can afford the gas to take a 900 mile trip. My Camry gets 30+MPG, so it rules for my needs.

I'm afraid there's a lot more to it than "truck motors" and "sedans". Take the V8 out of the POS Ford F-250 I'm renting currently (my 98 Dakota was stolen, found, and currently in the shop for repairs) and put that in any sedan, and it'll still perform like a slug. Neither truck motors nor sedans were manufactured for the express purpose of drag racing, and if you took one of those incredible big blocks from any muscle-car and stuck it in either a truck or a sedan, it wouldn't perform either. It'd probably blow up the powertrain of either. The best muscle-cars were designed from hood to trunk, bumper-to-bumper, to kick ass off the line. It wasn't just the motors that made them like that. If you like fuel economy then that's great, there's no reason to disrespect that at all. So I don't see why you'd disrespect a muscle-car lover's ride by reducing it by calling it a "truck motor in a sedan"? Last edited by Coelacanth; 17-March-07 at 04:44 PM..

OK, it seems you missed my point. Let me rephrase that to, "Stick a high horsepower motor into a relatively light sedan chassis and the tires spin". I still personally have no use for a vehicle that is designed solely for drag racing, for breaking traction and creating smoke, or for "showing off to the chicks". I'm not denying anyone else their fun (within the limits of public safety) or to show any disrespect, just addressing the claim that a certain vehicle type "rules" in all circumstances, which I find a bit disrespectful to my sensibilities. Call me a fuddy-duddy, but I prefer vehicles that carry a low cost of ownership, are efficient and safe, and that do not attract the attention of law enforcement officials. I'm not sure that any of the vehicles in those videos fit that parameter.

Somehow I seriously doubt that those cars are the daily choice of their owners, call it a play thing. If I had the money I'd personally prefer the Ariel Atom over the musclecars.

| The only reason they aren't the daily driver is because they are valued so much. There is never any intention of saving fuel, being safe, or ease of use when you own a muscle car. You have it because it is beautiful, powerful, and a classic. Although I am a MOPAR fan, I have the same appreciation for all muscle cars of that era. They were and are a pain in the ass to maintain and own, and worth every drop of sweat and blood. | ||

Yours?? Very sweet, it's much further along than my "Charger in the works". For all the dust though, the car is in pretty nice shape, exterior-wise, I don't need much for replacement parts. With the exception of a few minor details, she's pretty straight. What it's missing most is time. I'm looking for a house soon so once I have it in my own garage, the resto will begin. My plans include pulling the 383 Magnum (it only has maybe 20K miles on it since a performance rebuild but I'll probably re-think the top end and improve the ignition system, and an under-hood supercharger like Paxton used to make would be an idea) and doing a brand-new paint job, I have to redo the interior (probably going to black from it's original white), I might lose the vinyl roof (haven't decided yet), and losing those oh-so-80's wheels. I had the original exhaust tips rechromed, so I'll be losing the existing exhaust too. Over the years I've picked up some replacement parts off eBay like uncracked signal marker lenses, hood turn signal indicators, the chrome that's missing from the taillight area, etc. so it's just a matter of finding some time and putting in some more blood, sweat 'n' tears. (You couldn't be more correct about that, BA!) ![]() ![]() ![]()
