Default DirectX 9 error

Hey fellow gamers, I recently ran into a problem with dirextX 9. last night i formated my hard drive, after reinstaling all my drivers and games and updating them all, i go to play some cod2, i jacked the settings out and it closes the game and gives me the directx 9 error and says; DirectX9 encounterd an unrecoverable error, check the dicretx9 faq for reasons, so i cheak the faq. I meet all the things it says, proper directX intaled and hardware acceleration is set to Full, and all DirectX features under the Display Tab in the DirectX Diagnostic Tool are set to Enabled.

system specs,
Core2 Duo 1.86
1gb OCZ valuePro series
Intel x975xBX mobo
BFG 7900GTX OC
OCZ powerstream 600watt psu.

So has any one ever seen or heard of this before ? i just want to get online and get some headshots

I've not only heard of this, but run into it on a couple of occasions. I'm guessing you're running DX 9.0c. Usually when that happens, its because the version of DX either is the original DX 9.0c, and the game needs you to install it's version because of some tweaking that the designers did to the backend, or vice versa -- the version you installed was the tweaked version, and COD2 only likes the vanilla version from M$.

If COD2 asks you if you want to install DX from it's cd/dvd, do it. Even if you know you have it already on your system. Make sure you have the most recent video drivers for your card installed also - DX will sometimes bomb if hitting older drivers.

Start-Run Type DXDIAG, enter...
see what errors might persist from improper video drivers or... and report.
