Default Upgrading laptop video card

Hi, i just bought an Alienware m15x, and i got it with the m8600gt but down the line i would probably want to upgrade it to the m8800gtx. I was wondering if anyone knows where i could buy the card.
(Didn't really know where to post this so correct me if i am wrong)
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Here is something you should read before you think about trying to upgrade a video card for a laptop.
A commonly asked question we get is how to upgrade laptop video cards. If the card is dedicated, or not integrated, an upgrade is possible. Video card upgrades are a great idea for gamers and graphic designers. A dedicated video card also has it's own on board memory, so it does not draw from the computer's memory, adding additional performance.

So the question you should be asking your self first is make sure you are able to upgrade to a better video card, so make sure the video card that is in your laptop is not integrated if it is you will not be to up grade, the other option i been told about being able upgrade to a better video card would be to buy a stand alone video card for a laptop but your talking alot of money as of right now the external video card by Asus from what i seen and read are not out on the market let..

Check out this link about the new Asus external video card.

I hope this help you out,...

If it was me it would not be even worth the upgrade to a better video card as it would probably would cost you more then what you paid for the whole laptop just my $0.02 worth.

if the video card is indeed upgradable then the first place to look is alienware. expect high prices tho, and maybe some complications.

i have a alienware 7700 that also has a removable GPU 6800 Ultra Go. while i could upgrade it, it would also require me to upgrade my mobo as well.

the mobo is/was about $600, and about the same price for the new GPU.

so, assuming you have luck on your side and your mobo can support the new card, i would check with alienware, or ebay.

you could find out who actually makes that laptop, and check them out to see if they sell direct, but i doubt it.
my 7700 is made by Clevo. but if you narrow it down to the actual manufactor, that might be able to get you more hits on your search

I cannot find a "Single" 8800M GTX module, the only thing I've found is the SLI 8800M GTX at Dell, and it is going for over 1K!!!!

I don't think you have the module style in your laptop anyways...but if you did, it's certainly not gonna be worth it!

It is upgradable since it is dedicated, but i am going to have to get it from alienware and it is going to probably cost somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 so i am wondering if it is really worth it.

I'd say no, for that price you could build a complete decent desktop gaming rig
