| Nobody on PR or UW posted anything about the new FEAR demo? Come on, guys, you've let me down. For those not in the know, FEAR might shape up to succeed where Doom 3 was kind of meh. My download's at 10% right now, so I haven't played it yet, but all previews and hands-on impressions I've read seem to love this game. Take the pants-wetting horror of Doom 3 (or insert horror if you didn't find it there) and add in Monolith's ability to make a single player experience that's engaging the whole way through. See No One Lives Forever or Shogo And of course, it will give your system a thorough workout. All the screenshots I've seen look fantastic, at least on par with HL2. Where it stands out though is the amount of particle effects and crapola flying around on screen. From the unpolished multiplayer beta I played a while ago, I found that this makes an average firefight INTENSE. Basically, for those of you wondering what to stand in line for now that BF2 is out, I think this is your answer. http://www.whatisfear.com/us/ I'm downloading from here http://www.filerush.com/download.php..._spdemo_en.exe | ||

| The game is creepy (in a good way), i haven't had a chance to play it enough to develope a solid opinion, but my first impression is that i'd like a bit more control (or easy control) of keybinds/function assignment (think HL2, etc: 1 screen with a full listing of all key/mouse driven commands): right now, it seems that the functions are split over a couple menu options. Also, i'm still trying to get a feel for the "slow motion" feature. I just don't know how i feel about that (or how it would influence PvP). Gee, i guess i'll just have to play it some more ![]() | ||

| Is it just me or does this game run & load EXTREMELY slowly? The graphics are nice, but not nice enough to turn down my X800 Pro settings to freakin low! Hell, HL2 still looks better and I had everything on full in that game. Definitely staying away from purchasing this game. I peek around a corner - 20 second load. I fire my first shot after loading - 20 second load. Dying and respawning in my last spot - 2 minute wait. Not worth it, IMO. | ||

| The first time I played the game it ran decently enough. my 6800GT couldn't take on the full details, but it looked fantastic anyway (not Doom 3 fantastic for how it ran, but that's Carmack for you). I just finished playing again and something fishy was definately going on. Gigantic pauses at parts. This is better than the multiplayer beta I played though. I love pretty much everything else. The way the enemies moved, the intensity of a firefight... sucks that staying at a distance seems to be the best answer because I'd love to use those crazy melee moves (melee + crouch = wacky slide-kick). The weapons are great. I kind of like the sort of loose and inaccurate feel they have, it really makes you choose your weapon wisely and makes headshots a little less mindless. And of course, I was as creeped as I'd hoped. My biggest gripe is that the demo is too short. It's not something to tide me over --- it's something to get me impatient about getting my hands on the final copy. And fatso, I crossposted in Pimprig and made an ass out of myself. Still deserves a spot here | ||

| I do get a bit of lag (for lack of a better term), but nothing nearly as bad as what Erad is experiencing. I get a bit of a pause every so often when i'm moving around (it's annoying). I'm messing around with the settings, but so far i can't get it to run 100% smoothly ...I'm running a 6800GT, A64 3400+ (newcastle), and 1 G of pc 3200. The demo is a bit of a tease. When i got to the end of it, my first thought was: "Oh d4mn, i'm out of grenades." Then the demo ended: bummer. It definitely left me wanting more. The graphics are gorgeous and the creepyness factor is high (still in a good way...i jumped more than once when i saw my shadow, and that little kid gave me goosebumps )I'm definitely interested in checking out the game further and i'll probably wind up buying it, but the lag/choppiness had better be gone by that point or it's getting returned. | ||
