Default Intel's New BTX FormFacter--Dud or Stud?

Apprently Intel thinks it is time to replace the tried and true ATX formfactor. The question is ... will it catch on?

As is made evident by the proliferation of Small Form Factor (SFF) machines into the market, the need for a smaller, quieter successor to ATX has been building over the past 8 years. A couple of IDFs ago, Intel announced their development of the successor to ATX, which was codenamed Big Water. At the Fall 2003 Intel Developer Forum, Intel officially branded Big Water as the Balanced Technology eXtended form factor - or BTX for short.

With BTX motherboards and cases due out next year, it's time to start learning about what's changed with BTX and, what improvements the specification offers over ATX

i kind of like it though i hope it isnt as proprietary though. I'll stick with ATX for now, and like any new technology, wait for them to work all the bugs out of it.

I'm thinking the first to adapt will be the large companies such as Dell, Gateway, Sony, HP, etc. for the main reason that the customer doesn't care whether they're getting an ATX or BTX style system. I doubt many people in the enthusiast market will change and test it out, but there will be a few that will try it out right away.
