Are mp3's traceable??

Recording industry lawyers have claimed that detailed analysis of the data in MP3 music files can prove the files were downloaded illegally from an online file-sharing network.

I wouldn't have thought it'd make any difference if she already owned CD's containing the tracks. I guess RIAA want's to nail those too lazy to rip their own tracks now too...

Take Windoze for example, M$ doesn't give a crap where you got the disc, so long as you have purchased a license to install the software...

I found out recently that there are digital signatures added to music that has been ripped. I am now working on a way to easily find and alter them.

BigAkita - I believe all you need to do is convert the file from mp3 to mp3pro for example.

On the subject on mp3s....have any of you noticed that lots of mp3s on kazaa now have like 15 secs of the intro then just go whacky....riaa is startin to get on my nerves and irc is a pain to try to find all mp3s on.

Lateronmly, I'm talking about a sig that is added during the ripping process. A conversion wouldn't change it. It would be inbedded in the file.

BA, would converting it back to CDA, then back to MP3 again eliminate it? It's be like taking the ripped signal, making it analog, then re-ripping it...

EDIT: Or is the signature added by the ripping software itself?
