The latest device was born out of an agreement between Sony and NEC to develop optical drives for recordable media, and includes new key features like Active Disc Position Adjustment to compensate for unbalanced discs and Static Damper System to minimize shock and vibration. The AG170A achieves write speeds of up to 18x on a 16x single-layer disc, which is the fastest available.
