Here we are again fellow memory addicts…LOL! Yes, that’s right, Corsair has provided yet another sample of their memory product line. The people at Corsair really have the pulse of the end user in their R&D labs. This time we are evaluating the last shout of the DDR1 charge…2gigs of Corsair PC-4400 Pro! This Corsair kit uses the Infineon CE-5 memory ICs in order to get the crazy SPD frequency of 275fsb. This is Corsair's fastest DDR2 to date! We have the TWIN2X1024-8500 (1066mhz). So far this speed is the fastest retail DDR2 memory on the planet. In a world where CPU cores double and speeds increase, memory bandwidth and density must rise to the challenge. Thankfully, Corsair has risen to meet that challenge and provide a memory kit to satisfy the speed lust of cutting edge computer aficionado’s. Today we have another sample of Crucial’s DDR-2 memory up on the review slab. This time it comes in the PC-5300 flavor. Crucial has been very good with the review samples lately, which tells me they want the public to be informed about the memory they offer you. This in itself is a good indicator of a good company. Isn’t it nice to see a PC hardware company that’s interested in your choice rather than how much money they can squeeze out of you? The memory featured today is the XMS3500-LL PRO 2GB DDR. This particular memory has many attractive features. The numerical designation of 3500 is the industry standard for the real-time speed of 219MHz. "LL" is short for "low latency" and comes with module timings of Cas 2; Ras to Cas 3; Ras Precharge 2; Tras 6; Trc 7. That's some very tight memory timings! Corsair, you know the name, it needs no introduction. You know that Corsair is some of the finest, best performing memory in the world. Today for review I will be taking a look at some of Corsair's DDR2 that is PC8500 or 1066MHZ. This stuff really impressed me by its performance and overclocking ability, read on to find out more... Up on the review block this morning is one of Super Talent's offerings when it comes to running at DDR2-800, and is the T800UX2GC4 part to exact. This dual channel kit features two 1GB DIMMs with SPD timings of 4-4-3-8. However, this memory did not go through our labs without reaching a sticky situation. In comparing the XMS2 8500 to the XMS2 8000UL we reviewed not long ago, the XMS2 8500 beats the XMS2 8000UL slightly in overclocking. At 5-5-5-15, the 8000UL maxed at 997 MHz whereas the 8500 managed 1000 MHz. At 3-3-3-9, the XMS2 8500 beat the XMS2 8000UL by a 5 MHz sliver by posting a 795 MHz overclock. While the XMS2 8500 isn't a massive step forward in terms of overclocking, it is an improvement nonetheless. Intel was first to adopt DDR2 memory when they had launched their LGA-775 socket nearly two years ago with the Grantsdale and Alderwood Chipsets. Intel Corporation is first again to introduce the latest in memory technology: FB-DIMM. FB-DIMM is short for Fully Buffered Dual Inline Memory Module, and is primarily designed for mission-critical server environments that require maximum performance with minimal errors. FB-DIMMs are designed to bring the best traits from DDR2 memory while combining a new point-to-point serial memory interface. Some of the key benefits for Fully Buffered DIMMs include enhanced reliability, greater bandwidth, improved scalability, and higher capacity per memory channel. We at Phoronix have the first performance preview of the new DDR2 FB-DIMM memory modules on the Xeon Greencreek platform. Full Story at Phoronix | | | | | | |
