We haven't managed to round up every last offering from all vendors (as much as I'd love to evaluate 30 GeForces!), but to kick off our quest for that particular truth we've nabbed boards from XFX and eVGA to see what they're doing, encompassing 7900 GT and GTX. There is no doubting that the GeForce 7950 GX2 is the fastest video card on the market today that fits into a single PCI-Express x16 interconnect, and it holds that crown by a good distance in the majority of titles. In fact, probably the only title where the GeForce 7950 GX2 loses out to competing solutions is not because it lacks speed, but because it lacks forward looking features like support for 16-bit floating point High Dynamic Range Lighting in conjunction with a multisample Anti Aliasing pattern. Only a couple days ago at Computex, nVidia launched GeForce 7950GX2 - we all know about it, we even knew about them before the 7900GX2 was available but just how good is nVidia’s second attempt at SLI on a “single card” going to be? We shouldn’t call the GeForce 7950GX2 an SLI part but that’s pretty much what it is. The 7900GX2 which we looked at last month had some niggling issues but overall wasn’t too bad when gauged as a sign of what’s to come. So if you are in the market for a good graphics card and don't want to break the bank, give the Sapphire Ultimate X1600 PRO a try. It's a good quality card that will play just about any of the games currently out today. For the traveling LAN goers, I would suggest removing the card before you travel since this thing weighs A LOT Full Story at Virtual-Hideout | | | | | | Sapphire Ultimate X1600 Pro | Quote: | | | | | Originally Posted by BoxGods
When picking parts for an HTPC assembly, one of the most important parameters to consider is noise. I have spent several nights lying in bed wondering what part of my bedroom HTPC is making that annoying whine or click. Often, the worst offenders are those cute little turbo-charged fans they put on our video cards. Well, Sapphire heard our equally loud plea for silence and delivered what looks to be a nearly ideal solution for entertainment PC's. Enter the Sapphire Ultimate X1600 Pro--the latest addition to their Ultimate Silent Series line of cards. A look at the top shows the cooling measures Sapphire has taken to keep this a largely passive card. This RV530 core runs at 593MHz and is based on an advanced 90nm process. The front-mounted heatsink connects to the GPU and two heatpipes help even out the heat dispersal by ferrying a portion to the back of the card. WE SPEND A LOT of time covering high-end graphics cards, and while it's nice to ride the bleeding edge, it ain't cheap. Enthusiasts, however, are notoriously cheap. We appreciate the impressive performance feats achieved by high-end products, but we'd rather not pay the price premium associated with having the fastest card on the block. Instead, we seek out the sweet spot--an almost magical blend of price and performance that delivers unquestionable value.
In the graphics card market, there tend to be two sweet spots. The first resides around $300, where watered-down flavors of flagship products deliver great performance for serious gamers. Three hundred bucks is a lot to drop on a graphics card, though. Fortunately, a second sweet spot exists below $200. Here, cards like the GeForce 6600 GT have enjoyed phenomenal popularity by providing plenty of performance at a price that most can afford.
NVIDIA's replacement for the GeForce 6600 is the new GeForce 7600 series. Made up of GS and GT variants, the 7600 line takes over where the 6600 left off, extending the green team's domination of the mid-range market . NVIDIA's board partners have jumped all over the 7600 series, offering flavors that mix higher clock speeds with new cooler designs, VIVO capabilities, lifetime warranties, and attractive software bundles. But which GeForce 7600 is the sweetest? We've rounded up five cards from BFG, Gigabyte, MSI, and XFX to find out. Both these cards represent very good value for the price. Gaming performance is admirable, video decoding is excellent. The Sapphire has good performance in FEAR, as well as the better of the two heatsinks and more tweaks in Avivo. However, the MSI has a clear edge in price which is hard to ignore, as well as faster performance in Lost Coast and 1080p decoding. Full Story at bit-tech
