| A new bill proposed in Congress on Wednesday would land a person in prison for five years and impose a fine of $250,000 for uploading a single file to a peer-to-peer network. Although it is doubtfull a law as wide and sweeping as this would pass. Read the Full Story on Wired.com | ||

| Notice how it says "Uploading" a file will land you 5 years in jail and a $250,000 fine. I don't know if any of you guys do that, but as for me, I don't "Upload" anything, just "Download". Okay, I admit it, I'm a stingy mofo, but I just never felt like sharing my files, even though the whole point of a P2P program is to share whatever you download. Am I just a minority here? And anyways, if this retarded bill gets passed, although I doubt it will, I'll have legitimate reason to not upload anything. I certainly don't want to spend 5 years in jail and have a $250,000 fine tacked on to me just for sharing one stupid little file. The more I hear about the RIAA, the more they p!ss me off. I hope that evil, rotten organization goes under. Now that would make the world a better place. | ||

| Guest | I sent this to the site... This bill is rediculous. I have spent several years on computers and computer networks. I've seen files that technically weren't supposed to be there due to copyright limitations, but this is at the network's discretion in my opinion. It also depends on the network's location, and the type of access that is allowed. If a home owner has a network of five computers throughout the house, and has legally bought copyrighted material, he/she should have the ability to place that material on his/her computer to share throughout the house. This is a advantage of having a network in the first place, to share one thing to multiple applications. Five people could be on five computers in the home, all listening to the same cd at the same time, without having to make burnt copies on a cd-burner, or having to make taped copies from a stereo entertainment system. It just seems like a very vague bill to me, one that won't work because of the massive amount of applications it would have to cover, such as in home networks, public networks, types of files, and many others. | |
