AMD Confirms September 23 Lauch Date for the Athlon 64

Well you may rejoice! AMD has officaly confirmed the Athlon 64 will be released September 23 (lets hope not a paper release as weve seen in the past)

So if the release date is Sept 23, then does that mean it will be available for retail, say like by the end of the week at NewEgg?
Or does that mean NewEgg can order them starting on the 23, then wait a couple of weeks for shipment, and finaly shipping to customers around the 23 of October?

I was just curious how long it takes from the "release date" to a retail outlet in a real world scenario. I'm thinking it also takes a lot longer to get in the pipline for a major platform change like they are going through now with the Athlon 64.

I know this release has been pushed back several times now, so it probably has given motherboard manufacturers plenty of time to get ready, so when do you think we will see motherboards and DDR2 become available for retail?

Santa will probably see alot of Athlon64's on wish lists this year!

Man I can't wait to get one of those puppies either.

I believe you can preorder them from newegg like a couple of weeks before it's release date. newegg will most likely get them a couple of days before the release date and they then ship it to you on the release date.

Retail should work the same way.
