ASUS has done an admirable job with an excellent card. Their TOP is default clocked at 420MHz/1.62GHz, a 20MHz core jump and 120MHz memory jump over the reference card.

More details about the GeForce 7950GX2

Nvidia used their mobile design to reduce the power consumption but that is all old news by now. According to some OEMs, the 7950GX2 is supposed to be the new performance king. Not just for Quad SLI, it can also be a problem due to Nvidia`s SLI chipset licensing. We’ve learned that the release date was supposed to be earlier then the end of May. Some manufacturers actually uploaded a 7950GX2 manual a month ago.

It is a great deal for people whom would like to play these games, but don't have the ability to pay for the really expensive cards out there.

The advantage of choosing a graphics card that is 2nd down on the list is you no longer pay 1st place prices. I'm all about saving money! So how does this card perform with some of our favorite games and benchmarking software? Let's get busy and find out!

GeForce 7900-series graphics cards compared

NVIDIA'S GEFORCE 7900 SERIES is arguably the most attractive high-end graphics option for PC enthusiasts. With great gaming performance, low power consumption, mature multi-GPU rendering via SLI, and lower power consumption than ATI's Radeon X1900 GPU, the green team's G71 graphics processor has a lot going for it. What it doesn't have, however, is an NVIDIA-built graphics card to call home. Unlike ATI, NVIDIA relies exclusively on board partners to build graphics cards based on its latest GPUs. Fortunately, those partners have become increasingly adept at differentiating their offerings, giving prospective buyers additional options beyond the graphics chip.

Although partner cards share the same GPU and basic board design, manufacturers are free to play around with bundled software and extras, coolers, clock speeds, and of course, pricing. Factory "overclocking" has become particularly popular of late, with some manufacturers increasing core and memory clock speeds by as much as 25% beyond "default" speeds—a margin that can have more than just a modest impact on performance. Higher clock speeds don't always come cheap, of course, but they can go a long way toward making a card stand out. So can a great game bundle, a quieter cooler, or a lifetime warranty.

To get an idea of how different board manufacturers are approaching NVIDIA's GeForce 7900 series, we've rounded up a collection of cards from Asus, Biostar, BFG, and XFX. Read on to find out which offers the best performance, extras, and overall value.

Dual link DVI allows the videocard to run at super high resolutions, up to 2560x1600. Just think about two wide screen 30 LCD monitors running together, sweet! If that's not your cup of tea though and are still in CRT analog land, two DVI to analog converters are bundled with the videocard which allow for resolutions up to 2048x1536.

Being a part of HIS' Turbo line this card has received a default overclocked speed of 520MHz core with the memory speed remaining the same. Why the amount of 520MHz was chosen is unknown but it seems like a small enough jump to be a pretty safe overclock without straining the card too much. Plus with the heavy duty IceQ3 cooler, overheating the card is hardly a worry.
