Read on for a first look at Conroe performance, compared directly to an overclocked dual-core Athlon 64 system.

Uniquely to this IDF, there are strong implications for what Apple will have in the second half; for the first time in history, there is a promise that we will see the hardware OEMs (including Apple) go at each other with nearly identical technology. In addition, both Apple and Microsoft are expected to have new versions of their operating systems. It will be an interesting year.

I was talking with Cpt. Planet about conroe and was convinced to stay with intel on my next upgrade. now with conroe, not only does intel pwn in the video/audio compression feild but also in gaming which is huge news, they compared a 2.66ghz conroe against a FX60@2.8ghz and the conroe killed the fx in game performance.

Im interested to see what amd2 has instore to compete with this new monster of a cpu.

I can't wait to see what AMD come up with, i'm sure it will be something as equally impressing but i'm not worried about switching for performance issues, i'm mainly a gamer and most games are GPU intensive not CPU intensive so what I currently have should be capable for a few years yet. Still its nice to see some real competition between Intel and AMD at last.

just wait till the new gen. of amd comes out, its going to do what this cpu did to the FX60, out perform it, but thats the partern...there also many other factors here, (ex- price, stabillity, compatabillity)...i dont know about you guys i dont always look for performance i look for reliability, price, and compatablility and not always speed..

Eh - reliability... I've never had a CPU fail from regular use.

Regular is the key word there...

Here's another decent write up on Conroe

Intel's Conroe, it's good, but don't hold your breath?

Intel released preliminary performance results for their new Conroe processor last week, we take a few steps back and look at the bigger picture, including AMD's position.
