The EAX1800XT TOP is of course based off the VPU of ATI's Radeon X1800 XT, or the R520, which not only is fast but brought ATI up to the graphics quality standards of Nvidia. This includes supporting Shader Model 3.0, High Dynamic Rendering (HDR), AVIVO, and more. While the standard clock for the Radeon X1800XT is 625MHz for the GPU and 750MHz for the memory, Asus bumps this up to 700MHz for the core and 800MHz for the memory, all shipping speeds. To do this Asus brings in some massive heatsink and fan solution from Arctic cooling that takes up two slots and features four heatpipes and a copper heatsink to keep the system stable. The solution works excellently, not getting too hot and in fact we were able to overclock it further, but only slightly as we were limited by Asus' software how far we could go. We brought it up to 810MHz for the memory and 710MHz for the core. Overclocked good looking and fast, that is my opinion of the new XXX 7800GT from XFX as it delivers what's promised right out of the box. Package content is above the average and at least gives you a few decent game titles to wet your gaming appetite with. The way the XFX logo lights up in your system looks really cool so those wanting a custom tailored system will be pleased with that combined with the jet-black PCB of the card. This review is going to be taking a look at PowerColor's X1300 PCI Express video card. This product is designed for the price-conscious and people with limited gaming needs. It is the newest in the line of reasonably priced cards like the X300 and the 9200, neither of which seemed very exciting, but if you simply need a device for producing video, they have been a great way to save some money. Both ATI and NVIDIA are working on entering the mobile segment (read: cell phones) aggressively with 3D graphics technology to encourage advancements in graphics on cell phones and other such mobile devices. Imageon is ATI's way of entering that mobile segment and competing against its archrival NVIDIA. Rather than going down the Zalman route - a design that a lot of other manufacturers have copied with varying results - and run the heatpipes from the GPU to the back of the graphics card, Asus has a much more interesting solution. Although it looks as if the heatpipe is located just above the card at first, this is not the case. What Asus has done is to create a solution that allows you move the heatpipe 45 degrees. As ATI and Nvidia fill up their graphics chipsets with more and more transistors, even as they continue to shrink the die, with increasing clock speeds this means simply more and more heat. More heat of course requires more cooling solutions and more often this not this means a big fan. While it is true that both ATI and Nvidia have done a lot of work to keep the fan noise down from the furiously loud fans of the past, it can still be a problem, especially for those considering PC's for the home theater. Luckily, there have been a number of solutions that now use entirely passive cooling, even on high-end video cards. We previously looked at solutions from Gigabyte and Asus and today we have another, Asus' best passively cooled video card yet, the Asus EN7800GT TOP Silent. Your graphic card will never be the bottleneck again with Sapphire's top-of-the-line X1800XT. Using the same R520 GPU as the X1800XL, the Sapphire Radeon X1800XT has a core speed of 625Mhz, which is 25% faster than X1800XL. In addition, the ultra fast 1.2ns GDDR3 boost the memory speed to 1.5Ghz, which is 50% faster than X1800XL! We manage to achieve 15-25% improvement over the X1800XL in most of our benchmarks. This is the most significant in more demanding benchmarks at high resolution and FSAA. Full Story at HardwareZoom | | | | | | |
