| Apex Tech Fanatic Supreme | Gates is to Software what Dell is to hardware, or vice versa. I have yet to see any profound improvements, enhancements, or ground-breaking ways of computing using any microsoft products since 3.1. Not that there haven't been slow improvements, just nothing as groundbreaking as the first windows GUI. If Gates wants to crush open-source, he needs to compete. Not slander, compete. Make something worth paying for. End-of-Story. Gates is just pissed off that some companies are willing to develop software, and sell it for cheap/nothing. I'm sorry, but 1200$ for Office 04 suite for home users, and free gov't employee editions? "Lite" windows xp in Thailand? Gates has shattered his own price floor, and will pay for it. Open source is now a contender, and MS needs to stfu about "economic impact," "intellectual property," "security flaws," and make better products. ranting makes me a happy boy Edit: 50 post! | I still ain't figured out what all the hub-bub is about? This is America and he is doing what ANY american would do if they had the knowledge. I personally think the main is a demi-god..Way to go bill...I also own just about everything microsoft you could want or use and didn't pay so much as a dime for any of it :|, but thats besides the point. Yes M$ products have flaws and you might think more so than other $oftware, but realisticly more people use M$ than anything else so more people have more time to find the flaws....Sorry Linux in general rubs me raw..open source? I haven't a clue how to program so whoopty Chit! All i know is that with windows i pop the CD in install the bugger and it works..no hunting packs to download to make something work..no hunting down these forsaken drivers that "Might" work. so I say STFU to people that can't understand that this man and his mega corperation has done what ANY of us would do given the chance! It's pur genius short and simple. Monopoly? Yeah ok so what..I would have done the same thing, as i suspect 90% of us would. and lets not get into ethincs here..I recon that 80% of those that dislike this are the ones that have downloaded/installed/used something they didn't pay for, so who is really doing what around here Open source is bad for business short and simple..why buy the cow when the milk is free? | ||

| Apex Tech Fanatic Supreme | The fact of the matter is, the products have become more complex, moderately better, more widespread, more competition, but the price point is the same. He might be a sucessful businessman, but slandering open-source is a bad way to compete. Yes, in some cases, the price for Open Source is uhh, free, but chopping prices to sell xp, and giving the software to gov'ts is hurting his position. Yes, most of us might do the same, but would we lose sleep over it? Is it ethical? Microsoft products aren't necessarily bad, some are quite good, in fact. But the political baggage surrounding Gates is less than pleasing. Microsoft isn't evil, but some of the shady dealings makes you wonder when it will stop. Linux and the open-source solutions are not, and likely won't be mainstream. Not for a while. The established firms need to stop the slander and deal with it by improving products. period. I see open-source as a wakeup call to the industry. Only the companies with great products, who continually make improvements, with a reasonable price point will survive. And consumers will be happy. | |
