Exclamation Web News: P2P News: Senate bill S. 2560 would outlaw the iPod

What is the INDUCE ACT?

Quote:
JUNE 28, 2004: The INDUCE Act is legislation being pushed by the record industry that would allow them to file lawsuits against companies that make unrestricted music hardware or software, such as the iPod or filesharing programs. The INDUCE Act will restrict technological innovation, limit free speech, and threaten one of the most vibrant sectors of the United States economy. Instead of taking advantage of new opportunities to build new business models, the record industry is pressuring Congress to stop music sharing with more lawsuits and regulation.

Well, I feel mixed on the whole lawsuite thing with file sharing and copying. All the big "Media" companies and their associations have been going after the end user of the products that allow such acts for years now instead of the actual manufacturers of the hardware.

IMHO, the only way to stop piracy is to take down the companies that make the hardware. Reason being, every time there comes out some new way to thwart piracy, it seems like it is just a few lines of code away from it being cracked.

F*ck the recording isdursty they are all dinosaurs that haven't gotten with the times, it's 2004 bitches, sorry if you guys are raping artists in the ass and taking their money so much that you have to blame it on filesharing, why don't you guys just grow some balls already.

My theory is they make more money off suing people than they would making a legitimate profit off electronic music sales. How cool would it be to pay some money and download a CD? I have been waiting a god damned month for a 2-disc set thats been on back order from the UK for two weeks now.

Assholes

This rant goes hand in hand with the other thread I just posted to about the Senate bill that will make P2P networks illegal. Highly unlikely that it will survive a legal test in the court system.

For example, the highest posted speed limit in the US, I believe, 75MPH. If this survives, the it must follow that inhibitors will be used on vehicles to prevent traveling above 75MPH.

RIAA.

Damn you.

Nofx has a good song about the music industry, called Dinosaurs Must Die I beleive. Heres a quote;

"Where did all they're money go don't we all know
Parasitic music industry
As it destroys itself
We'll show them how it's supposed to be"

heh. Die RIAA.

I've been a little confused about this. Would this outlaw burners? If not, I know what's going on.

Apple isn't a part of the RIAA. Sony and all the other RIAA labels that have an electronics division, don't give a sh!t about mp3 players, because the iPod has a near monopoloy, and these labels are perfectly happy to throw it out. However, if this would outlaw burners, I'd be very surprised because then Sony would be shooting its foot.

What I've been thinking for the past few years now about Sony and its RIAA buddies...

Sony's hardware, at least it's minidisc players, use a format called ATRAC, which breaks down the file so it takes up less space on the minidisc. However, you can only record to the minidisc using a Sony program called OpenMG Jukebox or NetMD. Furthermore, if I was to take a minidisc that I had recorded from my computer and tried to burn it onto your computer using the same program (because it's the only ones out there that has an ATRAC decoder), it wouldn't take because it would check your file transfer file to see if it had been "checked out" of your computer first, thereby preventing the upload.

I love the Sony minidisc. It can hold about 30 to 40 songs on one disc, you can re-record it several times and move the playlist around, very durable, and no worries that I can remember. I know people say that you can get the same results with MP3 with more songs, but I'll just stick with my minidisc for now.

So, Sony really won't be affected by this lawsuit because it only allows the music to be "temporarily" checked out from your computer like a library.

Well you're just missing all the fun we're having with all of these lawsuits

Anyways...it should be illegal to outlaw a sexy device such as the iPod...it's just not right
