Default Web News: Googol may sue Google

Quote:
NOW THAT Google's IPO is running, the company is on the verge of being sued by the family of a man who invented the word 'Googol' to describe a very big number.

Professor Edward Kasner came up with the word Googol, apparently at the suggestion of his 9-year-old nephew, Milton Sirotta.

In 1955 he died and much later a search engine called Google was born. His relatives claim that Kasner must be spinning in his grave. They believe Google has gained financially at their expense and they want to become IPO insiders to put his soul to rest.

Here I thought "google" was a word, although www.dictionary.com proves me wrong.

Stop googling around and get some work done, Googly eyes. Perhaps if you stop and google off into the distance, you'll actually find the place you're looking for. As in, google meaning "looking", or OH, don't say it! SEARCHING for something!

Seeing where they're coming from seems to be looking at things from an awkward angle though...googol is a huge number, and google may return tons of search results, HOWEVER, WTF is a search engine supposed to do? Turn up 10 sites and be done with it?

I don't think that they will have a case...for one the spelling is different....and two if google thinks that there will be a case I am sure that they would settle out of court, at least you would think? But I think that the spelling part of it will get them!!!

Although I support our justice system, I've seen some very questionable cases win.

In this case for example; what would Google rather do...Pay a few hundred thousand or more to a family who has a very bad case against them, or risk extensive news coverage and bad public relations that could affect the company's profits by millions and millions of dollars. I'm guessing that this case will magically disappear. And the Googol folks will live happily ever after.
