Exclamation Web News: Microsoft Patents Apple

Quote:
U.S. Plant Patent 14,757, granted to Robert Burchinal of East Wenatchee, Wash., and assigned to Microsoft, covers a new type of tree discovered in the early 1990s in the Wenatchee area, a major commercial apple-growing region. Dubbed the "Burchinal Red Delicious," the tree is notable for producing fruit that achieves a deep red color significantly earlier than other varieties. It is sold commercially as the "Adams Apple."

First off folks I'm from Yakima Washington and was picking apples and walkin' ladders since I was 4 years old and actually happen to know the apple in question.

I have no clue on how MS got involved in this but a few things I'd like to state. You don't "discover" new apple varieties, you cross polinate/splice etc etc. Adams Apple is a niche apple also (tastes worse than a Red delicious but can hit the market saturated by other varieties that have grown soft due to CA refrigeration).

Not that anyone cares, but some things I wanted to state.

Also - buy USA Apples from the fine state of Washington! New Zealand and China are subpar before they hit US shores due to lack of barge supporting CA capibilities. Don't leave my relatives unemployeed. We lost our hop farms, don't take our apple orchards and make us go vineyard.
