Learned my leason when I opened and SAVED the klez virus to my HD... oh well.. live and learn.

Oh, and just to clarify; is it possible to get a worm if you don't DL stuff without 100% knowledge of what it is (misc patches)?

Its possible to get a virus just being connected to the internet - without ever "intentionally" downloading anything.

They have this one at work ... I can't say I have a lot of sympathy: the last time I got a virus that did any damage was 1996, & that was because my new PC had it on it when I bought it

Looks like I might need to take some reading matter in if the IT dept can't fix it before my shift starts (us mere plebs aren't allowed to fix anything) .... the question is, will it be the Narnia box set, CJ Cherryh's "Foreigner" quadrilogy, or Iain M. Banks' "Culture" novels?

Didn't get a chance for ny reading ... moved a few parcels about, filled a few forms out & came home after 3 hours

The bad news is that if they fix it by tommorrow I'll have to do 10-12 hours to catch up ... the worse news is that if they don't fix it untill Thursday, it'll take 20-24 hours... that's a pretty long shift

we once bought a Compaq, top of the line at the time. it took 4 hours on tech support to try to get it running before we returned it for a new one, then an additional 3 hours on the new one. Somebody had installed windows and all the drivers twice on each of them, and at the time I didn't have the knowhow to fix it. Was a couple years ago.

Bah! I've played computer games longer than that before.
Seriously though, that is a long shift (made even longer by it being AT work) but you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes I suppose.
