Default Vantec Aeroflow VA4-C7040 @ ViperLair

This new fan from Vatec is defitly a looker, with the spify new 70 mmY.S. Tech Tip-Magnetic Driving Fan, and the windtunnel fin design, it defiitly a pimp worthy Heatsink.

"The fin layout is nothing like I've seen before. Removing the fan reveals a criss-cross pattern, and Vantec doesn't use any tricks like thin fins in the design. There is almost a windtunnel like design to it, which would explain why it's called an Aeroflow."

Looks like a great heatsink and a real good price. I was wondering when we would start seeing more use of the TMD design. Makes sense for a heatsink because the center dead zone is greatly reduced.

scapegoat, did you get your Aeroflow yet? If so, how is the finish on the copper core where it meats the CPU?

Have YS Tech resolved their issues with their TMD fans? They recalled thousands of units originally shipped with Swiftech heatsinks as they would spin faster than the rated rpm and probably burn up (or worse)...

Ya Coel from what i have understood, and what they have posted on their web site, it looks like the new models have all the bugs worked out of them and they should be running fine

*me wants 80mm TMD fans now!!!*

I saw this review earlier today, Did you see it from bluesnews? It seems your news posts and bluesnews.com have a lot in common, or maybe i just am here and there too damn much! anyway, I want an 80mm TMD fam for my AX7. I saw an article somewhere that showed a mod to the AX7 that included a hole bored thru the center of the ax7 straight thru to the copper plate. looked neat!

anyway, that is a fine lookin heatsink, the fin design is nutty!

doh, just saw that the bluesnews review came from OCwarehouse...here is an overhead pic of the fin layout.

Well, I got my Aeroflow today, and it is one beauty of a contaption. Looks like a piece of post modern work of art.

The copper core where it contacts the cpu looks like it could use a bit of a lapping though. It appears that they test these for fit or something, cause mine looks like it has the markings or the contact plate on the biscut. Not sure what grit sand papers I should use since I have never done a lapping before, but my father is a machinist and is going to bring some paper home with him. I wont get the paper until I go over to his place this weekend though. The bottom is about the same finish as it looks in the big picture BZA posted, but without the circular swirls.

The anticipation is killing me...

Oh, one other thing. How should I, or what should I use to clean off the contact area on my CPU? I'm sure there will be plenty of old thermal compound on it that will need to be removed. Also, should I lap the CPU contact area also? It's an AMD 1 GHZ Tbird
