Default Web News: HP to Launch Linux Based Desktop PC's Globally

Hewlett-Packard Co. is putting its weight behind personal computers that run the Linux operating system, the No. 1 personal computer and computer printer maker said on Wednesday.

Palo Alto, California-based HP said it will work with Novell Inc, which sells a version of the Linux operating system, to ensure that its business customers can use the fast-growing software on its desktop and notebook computers by providing support and testing.

This is great. The more computers people can buy off the shelf with Linux, the more incentive hardware companies have to make compatible drivers and software companies make Linux versions of their programs..

Some people are gonna argue with me - but for a first computer I say Linux is what to give people. MS will always end up causing you to be fielding phone calls from relatives with questions, Linux (Mandrake specifically) is so newbie friendly in terms of they can't screw it up and easy to explain basic operations, you just can't go wrong.

definitely agree. i believe mandrake even has voice and picture tutorials for people who don't know anything. plus CNR has an advantage over microsoft any day. i hope that if more computers are sold with linux game developers/publishers will realize they should make more software for linux.
